Our lesson for this morning is… POLYGONS
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to: 1. describe a polygon; 2. differentiate regular from irregular polygons; 3. draw and describe regular and irregular polygons with 5, 6, 8, or 10 sides using a ruler and protractor; 4. create any figure using the combination of regular and irregular polygons; and 5. appreciate the significance of regular and irregular polygons in daily lives.

PROBLEM: Mang Carding is hired by Masagana National High School to work the Math park. The Math club officers and members, together with the club adviser, have decided to incorporate shapes of regular polygons in the construction of the park. In addition, each of the polygonal figure must have 1 foot measurement in each side. Since Mang Carding don’t even know what a polygon is, how will you help him so that the park will be realized?
What is the job of Mang Carding? Is the job of Mang Carding a decent job?
What are the shapes to be incorporated in the Math park? As a member of the Mathematics club, are you willing to help Mang Carding?
What is the problem all about? What do you think is a polygon? A polygon is a closed figure made up of sides.

GROUP ACTIVITY No. 1 1. a polygon of 4 sides Using geoboards and rubber bands, create the following:
GROUP ACTIVITY No. 1 2. a polygon of 6 sides Using geoboards and rubber bands, create the following:
GROUP ACTIVITY No. 1 3. not a polygon Using geoboards and rubber bands, create the following:
GROUP ACTIVITY No. 1 4. a polygon of 10 sides Using geoboards and rubber bands, create the following:
GROUP ACTIVITY No. 1 5. a polygon of 8 sides Using geoboards and rubber bands, create the following:
Clasify if the following polygon is regular or irregular:
Question: 1. What do you think is the difference between regular and irregular polygons? 2 . What can you say about the sides of a regular polygon?
Question: 3 . What can you say about the interior angles of a regular polygon 4. What about the sides or the interior angles of an irregular polygon?
GROUP ACTIVITY No. 2 1. a regular polygon of 6 sides Using geoboards and rubber bands, create the following:
GROUP ACTIVITY No. 2 2. an irregular polygon of 8 sides Using geoboards and rubber bands, create the following:
GROUP ACTIVITY No. 2 3. an irregular polygon of 5 sides Using geoboards and rubber bands, create the following:
GROUP ACTIVITY No. 2 4. a regular polygon of 10 sides Using geoboards and rubber bands, create the following:
GROUP ACTIVITY No. 3 CONSTRUCTION A. 5 sides; a side measures 5 inches B. 6 sides; a side measures 5 inches C. 8 sides; a side measures 4 inches D. 10 sides; a side measures 3 inches Using a ruler and protractor, draw in a manila paper the corresponding regular and irregular polygons with the following indicated number of sides and side lengths:
Questions: 1. How did you find the activity? 2. Are you having a hard time in drawing the polygons? 3. Does the activity helped you to become more skilled in constructing both regular and irregular polygons?
In drawing a regular polygon… all sides must be congruent and all interior angles must be congruent. In drawing an irregular polygon… some of the sides have different measurement and some of the interior angles have different measurement.
How will you help Mang Carding so that it will be easy for him to work the Math park? How significant are the sides and angles of a polygon?
EVALUATION TEST I MULTIPLE CHOICE. Read and analyze the following items very carefully. Choose the letter of the best answer. Use short bondpaper as your answer sheet. What do you call a closed plane figure bounded by sides? A. circle B. polygon C. star D. object
EVALUATION 2. Which of the following is a regular polygon?
EVALUATION 3. Is it important to consider only the congruency of sides to form a regular polygon? Yes, because no need to consider the congruency of the angles to form a regular polygon. Yes, because congruency of the sides ensures the congruency of angles to form a regular polygon. No, because you only have to consider the congruency of angles to form a regular polygon. No, because to form a regular polygon, all sides must be congruent and all angles must be congruent.
EVALUATION 4. Which of the following can you apply regular and irregular polygons? A. in roofing structures B. in art C. in floor tile designs D. all of the above
EVALUATION TEST II ESSAY WRITING. How are you going to construct a regular polygon of 7 sides? TEST III CONSTRUCTION. Using the toothpicks, glue, ruler and protractor provided, construct a regular polygon of 9 sides each side measuring 1 inch.
ASSIGNMENT Using GeoGebra, create any structural design using the combination of regular and irregular polygons with 5, 6, 8, or 10 sides. Download your output and upload on the link provided.
Additional Activities for Application or Remediation For advanced learners, create a poem on how to draw regular and irregular polygons with 5, 6, 8, or 10 sides. They will present it in front of the class.
Additional Activities for Application or Remediation For struggling learners, give them worksheets on drawing regular and irregular polygons with 5, 6, 8, or 10 sides. Ask the advanced learners to do peer tutoring to these struggling learners so that the latter can achieve the task.
Additional Activities for Application or Remediation For a blind learner, for him to construct a regular polygon of 5 sides, provide him 5 popsicle sticks to use. So that it will be easier for him how much is the angle measurement to be considered, provide him an improvised device with the correct angle measurement already, for him to manipulate.
