ABOUT UTTARAKHAND

Uttarakhand formerly known as Uttaranchal is a state in the northern
part of India. It is often referred to as the "Devbhumi"
("Land of the Gods") due to numerous Hindu temples and pilgrimage
centers found throughout the state. The natives of the state are
generally called Uttarakhandi, or more specifically either Garhwali or
Kumaoni by their region of origin. A major section of the people in
Uttarakhand are Hindus.

Uttarakhand is known for the natural environment of the Himalayas,
the Bhabar and the Terai regions and is known for its beautiful Garhwali
and Kumaoni culture.

6. UTTARAKHAND POPULATION
According 2011 census of India, uttrakhand’s population has reached
approximately 1.01 crore with an increase of 19.17 percent from the past
decade. Uttarakhand feeds approximately 0.84% of India’s population.
As per census report of uttarakhand, the total population of the state is
10,116,752; of which male and female are 5,154,178 and 4,962,574,
respectively which has increased from 84, 89,349. The total population of the
state as per census 2001 where 43, 25,924 were males and 41, 63,425 were
females.
With regards to sex ratio, the state has demonstrated that it has the better
indicators than the national averages. As per census 2011, uttarakhands sex ratio
stands out at 963 which was at 962 in 2001 and fares better as compared
toaverage sex ratio of india (940).

Mean= sum of all the observations/ total number of observations

13. RAM JHULA – ONE OF THE MOST
FAMOUS BRIDGES IN UTTARAKHAND

Ram Jhula is an iron suspension bridge across the river Ganges, located 3
kilometres (1.9 mi) north-east from the town Rishikesh in the Indian state
of Uttarakhand. The bridge connects the Sivananda Nagar area of Muni Ki
Reti in Tehri Garhwal district to Swargashram in Pauri Garhwal district crossing
the river from west to east. Built in the year 1986, the bridge is one of the iconic
landmarks of Rishikesh.
Total length: 229m
Say, a person is standing in the middle of the bridge and looking at the top of the
pole at the end of the bridge, such that the angle of elevation is 60 degrees, so
how do we find the height of the pole?

14. In order to do that, we have,

The length of bridge= 229m
Length of the bridge to its midpoint= 229/2m
Angle of elevation= 60 degrees
So now, we know that,
Tan theta = perpendicular/base
So, tan 60= perpendicular/229/2= root 3
Perpendicular = 114.5x1.73
=198.085m
Thus the height of the pole is 198.085
(Note: the values taken are not exact)

Trigonometry can be very useful in our everyday lives just like we used it above.
