MAYAN ARCHITECTURE Maya architecture spans many thousands of years. the most easily recognizable as a Mayan construction is the stepped pyramid from the Pre-classic period. There are also many other constructions and sites that are important to the Maya.

MAYAN MAIN CONSTRUCTIONS Ceremonials platforms : used for public ceremonies and religious events as well as to exhibit the heads of the victims of war. In this platform Mayan displayed the head of the leader of the team that lose at the ball game.

MAYAN MAIN CONSTRUCTIONS Palaces: were the houses of the rich population and were decorated with paintings and sculptures and were near the center of the city.

MAYAN MAIN CONSTRUCTIONS Pyramids and Temples: Often the most important religious temples were at the top of the towering Maya pyramids, because is the closest place to the heavens. Also is known that temples and pyramids were used as a grabes .

MAYAN MAIN CONSTRUCTIONS Observatories: The Maya were keen astronomers and had mapped out the phases of celestial objects, especially the Moon and Venus. Many observatories had windows and doors lined with stars and planets

MAIN CITIES -Chichén Itzá Chichen Itza was one of the largest Maya cities and it was likely to have been one of the mythical great cities, or Tollans , referred to in later Mesoamerican literature.The city may have had the most diverse population in the Maya world, a factor that could have contributed to the variety of architectural styles at the site.

MAIN CITIES -Tikal Is one of the largest archaeological sites and urban centres of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization. It is located in the archaeological region of the Petén Basin in what is now northern Guatemala. Situated in the department of El Petén, the site is part of Guatemala's Tikal National Park and in 1979 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Tikal was the capital of a conquest state that became one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Maya.

MAIN CITIES- Uxmal Is an ancient Maya city of the classical period in present-day Mexico. It is considered one of the most important archaeological sites of Maya culture, along with Chichen Itza in Mexico; Caracol and Xunantunich in Belize, and Tikal in Guatemala. It is located in the Puuc region and is considered one of the Maya cities most representative of the region's dominant architectural style. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of its significance.
