Introduction Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS) is an initiative of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to leverage information technology for ensuring delivery of full spectrum of healthcare and immunization services to pregnant women and children up to 5 years of age . It facilitates and monitors service delivery and also establishes a two way communication between the service providers and beneficiaries . Ministry of Health and Family Welfare jointly with National Informatics Centre, launched a web enabled application , Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS) in December 2009 and currently covers all states in India . MCTS cell has been established at NIHFW from 1st October 2012. The cell has been working under Statistics & Demography department with the guidance and direction of MoHFW and NIHFW.
MCT trends MCTS involves entry of huge volumes of data generated at the grassroots level, which is usually the sub centre . The data is then compiled at different levels and transmitted to the next higher level. It is very essential to identify the operational aspects of its implementation at each level, especially at the level where data are generated, i.e., at the subcenter (SC) and at the first point of data entry, i.e., primary health center (PHC). More than 4.06 crore pregnant women and 3.3 crore children have been registered in the system since its inception.
Over 99.5% districts, 96% health blocks, 88% health facilities (other than Sub Health Centres (SHCs) and 94% SHCs are reporting data in MCTS. Total 2.3 lakh ANMS are registered in MCTS, of which 2.2 lakh (96.6%) ANM are registered with Phone Number. Total 8.4 lakh ASHAs are registered in MCTS, out of which 6.9 lakh (82.9%) ASHAs are registered with Phone number. - Everyday approximately 7-8 lakh SMSes are being sent to the beneficiaries carrying useful IEC messages related to maternal and child care, schemes like JSY, JSSK and Direct Benefit Transfer.
