utterances that people use to indicate that they need a response or reaction from their addressee or the person they are talking to can be direct verbal cues that are clearly expressed instructions Indirect verbal cues tend to be less obvious about what the speaker expects of his/her listener to do or say. – body languages that also send an indirect message to the listener/addressee Nonverbal cues Eye Contact helps capture and maintain the addressee's interest, and at the same time contributes to the speaker’s credibility Physical Manipulation enhances the message during the conversation and emphasizes important points
