EFFECTS OF MALNUTRITION ON HUMAN BODY: Malnutrition can have a wide range of affects on an individual’s health. Starvation:   T he person is not getting enough calories, vitamins, and minerals for their body to process properly .  Decrease energy level Fatigue or tired Prolonged starvation can cause organ failure which result in death. Muscle Function: Malnutrition affects muscle function, leading to weakness and fatigue, even before visible changes in muscle mass occur. Weight Loss: Malnutrition causes weight loss due to depletion of fat and muscle mass, including organ mass .

Immune System : Malnutrition weakens the immune responses which increases the risk of getting infections and increases the time duration to recover from infection. Cardio-Respiratory Problems: Malnutrition depletes cardiac muscle mass, leading to decreased heart function, reduced kidney function, and breathing difficulties. Fatal Diarrhea: Severe malnutrition can cause life-threatening diarrhea due to the loss of colon function and excessive fluid secretion. Wound healing: Wounds take longer to heal, and illnesses take longer to recover from.

Hypothermia : Difficulty staying warm as a result of having less muscle and tissue mass, increasing risk of Hypothermia (the inability to maintain a normal body temperature). Psychosocial effects: malnutrition also results in psychosocial effects such as apathy, depression, anxiety and self-neglect . Apathy: Apathy is  when you lack motivation to do things or just don't care much about what's going on around you .

Conclusion: Malnutrition can be considered as an obstruction in the path of development globally. Many people struggle to provide their families with the basic nutrients they need due to poverty and other reasons. To tackle this problem, we need to use a approach called biofortification, which involves adding essential nutrients to all food products. This can have a big impact globally. Additionally, we need to use special treatments like RUTFs (Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods). The best way to prevent malnutrition is to eat a healthy, balanced diet. Try not to miss or skip meals and aim to eat three small meals a day and two to three snacks a day if your appetite is poor. Take drinks after your meal, not before or during as that can fill you up.
