Numerical Descriptive Measures

Measures of Central Tendency Measure of central tendency provides a very convenient way of describing a set of scores with a single number that describes the PERFORMANCE of the group. It is also defined as a single value that is used to describe the “center” of the data.

Measure of Central Tendency The tendency of the observations to cluster in the central part of data is called measure of central tendency. Mean Median Mode

Measure of Central Tendency for ungrouped data Mean The mean, also called the arithmetic mean, is the most frequently used measure of central tendency. For ungrouped data, the mean is obtained by dividing the sum of all values by the number of values in the data set:

Mean The MEAN of a set of values or measurements is the sum of all the measurements divided by the number of measurements in the set. The mean is the most popular and widely used. It is sometimes called the arithmetic mean.

Solution

Median Median The median is the value of the middle term in a data set that has been ranked in increasing order.

Mode Mode The mode is the value that occurs with the highest frequency in a data set. There can be no Mode, one mode or more than one mode in any data set
