MEDIA?

The term media, which is the plural of medium,
refers to the communication channels through
which we disseminate news, music, movies,
education, promotional messages and other
data. It includes physical and online newspapers
and magazines, television, radio, billboards,
telephone, the Internet, fax and billboards.

Importance of Media Literacy in
the Digital Age
reallygreatsite.com
It’s important for everyone to
have a basic understanding of
how the media works, and how
to find accurate and honest
reporting. We no longer gather
news from just the papers, but
through television, social media
and online reporting.

A critical thinker understands
the connections between
ideas, and is able to construct
arguments based on facts, as
well as find mistakes in
reasoning.
Why critical thinking is so important?

TYPES OF MEDIA

Digital Media

TYPES OF MEDIA
Print Media
Print media are traditional mass media
published on paper. The concept not only includes
the published products but also regards the
organizational context shaping the journalistic
routines and norms behind the printed products.
Print media represents the oldest and the most
widespread type of mass media because as
opposed to electronic media it does not require an
elaborate technical infrastructure on the part of
the user.

TYPES OF MEDIA
Broadcast Media
Broadcast media describes all
media that is broadcast. That
means that it is transmitted as
a signal and in 99% of cases this
is referring either to television
or to radio.

TYPES OF MEDIA
Digital Media
Digital media is any form of media
that uses electronic devices for
distribution. This form of media can
be created, viewed, modified, and
distributed via electronic devices.
Digital media is commonly used
software, video games, videos,
websites, social media, and online
advertising.

Media's Role in Education

Almost a quarter of the world’s
population is now on Facebook. In the
U.S., nearly 80% of all internet users
are on this platform. Because social
networks feed off interactions among
people, they become more powerful as
they grow.

Thanks to the internet, each person with
marginal views can see that he’s not
alone. And when these people find one
another via social media, they can do
things — create memes, publications, and
entire online worlds that bolster their
worldview, and then break into the
mainstream.
Without social media, social, ethical,
environmental, and political ills would
have minimal visibility. Increased visibility
of issues has shifted the balance of power
from the hands of a few to the masses.

Social media has emerged as a
powerful tool for shaping public
opinion and political discourse in
recent years. With the rise of
platforms such as Twitter, Facebook,
and Instagram, individuals have
gained an unprecedented ability to
express their opinions and engage
with others on a global scale. While
social media has had many positive
effects on society, it has also had a
significant impact on political
discourse and public opinion.

Popular media (films, music,
YouTube) are a familiar
medium to students that
helps gain attention and
maintain student interest in
the theories and concepts
under discussion. Students
can see the theories and
concepts in action. In more
than a figurative sense,
theories and concepts leap
from the screen.
