DEMERITS It requires arranging to data in ascending or descending order but other averages do not need this. It is not based on all observations, since it is a positional average. It is not capable of further algebraic treatment like arithmetic mean. It cannot be computed exactly where the no. of items in series is even. It is difficult to calculate if the number of items is very small or large.
