What is NEET? The NEET is a test for admission to the medical and dental universities in India. In addition, the exam allows you to enter AYUSH. NEET-PG is mandatory for postgraduate courses in medicine, surgery, and dental. How many seats for medical courses are there in India ? In 2024, the total number of seats for medical courses in India was 1,06,333. This included 55,648 seats in government colleges and 50,685 seats in private colleges. Do all the medical colleges of India accept NEET score? All the medical colleges of India accept NEET scores except All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER).

NEET-UG Exam Eligibility Criteria NEET is mandatory for Indian/Overseas candidates for admission to a medical University in India. Age Limit:  The minimum age limit for NEET is 17 years on 31st December of the year of admission. There is no upper age limit for the NEET exam All India Quota seats: Foreign nationals and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), NRIs, Person of Indian Origin (PIO) is entitled to the reservation under 15% All India Quota seats. J & K candidates are not eligible for 15% All India Quota seats. Qualification: The candidate who is appearing or has appeared in the 12th may apply for NEET. Their admission is confirmed only after clearing the 12th exam . -Passed B.Sc. with any two of the Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology from an Indian University. -Passed the first year of the University's three years' degree course in PCB Number of Attempts : Candidates can attempt NEET as many times as they wish until they attain the maximum age limit.

NUMBER OF MEDICAL COLLEGES & SEATS IN TAMIL NADU As of October 2024, Tamil Nadu has 5,600 MBBS seats in 36 government medical colleges. The state health department is seeking approval to increase the number of seats in these colleges.  Explanation Tamil Nadu has 76 medical colleges, including government, private, and deemed universities.  The state health department runs 36 of the medical colleges.  The ESIC Medical College in KK Nagar and AIIMS in Madurai offer 200 seats.  The remaining 38 colleges are self-financing, private, or deemed universities.  The state has a policy to establish one new medical college in each district.  The state quota for MBBS seats is 50%. 

Tamil Nadu Category Seat Reservations Open Competition(OC) – 31% Backward Class (BC) – 30% Muslim (BCM) – 3.5% Most Backward Class (MBC) – 20% Scheduled Castes(SC) – 18% Scheduled Caste Arunthathiyar (SCA) – 16% of 18% earmarked Scheduled Tribes(ST) – 1% Apart from the communal reservation, all reservation categories are also eligible for open competition as per their state rank.

Government School 7.5% Quota From admission year 2020, the Tamil Nadu state government implemented 7.5 percent horizontal reservation for Tamil Nadu students who studied in government schools. Under each reservation category, 7.5% seats are reserved for govt school students. This quota is applicable for state government quota in private medical colleges as well. If candidates studied from 6th to 12th in Tamil Nadu government schools, they are eligible to claim 7.5 percent reservation. Those candidates who claim these seats, should submit bonafide certificate signed by the head of the institution last studied and the chief educational officer of the district covering all govt schools in which the candidate studied. This government school reservation is applicable only for MBBS course and not applicable for PG and Super specialty courses.
