❖You may have imported your existing members and/or
you may be starting from scratch with a brand new
membership application. Either way, what next steps do
you take?
➢Remind them of benefits and why they signed up
in the first place!
➢Inform them of system changes, and let them
know what to expect
■Using the reset password link to login for
the first time
■Interacting with their profile and site
content
■Joining user groups
■Registering for events
➢Let’s dig into this a little further!
Figure 8: For greater security, encrypted data such as
passwords are NOT imported or migrated. Use the
reset password link in order to create a new password
when logging in for the first time.

❖Member Benefits
➢When you communicate with your members
about updates to your platform, let them know or
remind them of what benefits they enjoy by
joining or renewing their membership at your
organization -
■Do they receive special pricing on exclusive
events?
■Do they have access to a private blog?
■Do they have the ability to post job listings
or send in resumes?
■Are they able to secure a corporate
directory listing?
■Do they have access to exclusive educational
material?

landing page containing “accordion” sections that expand
for more information, as well as a “Subscribe” form and
recent articles.

❖Platform Changes
➢When you communicate with your members about
updates to your Tendenci platform, also let them
know what changes they can expect
■It is a great idea to set up a Member FAQ page.
This may take time and feedback from your
members after switching platforms, but you
can certainly anticipate some questions -
●Let them know how to login for the first
time
◆Using the “Reset password” link
●Let them know how to update their
profile
●Let them know where to find
everything such as Event Registrations,
Chapter groups and more!
Figure 10: Set up a Membership FAQ section so
members know what to expect from your new platform.

❖New Member Dashboard
➢Want to gain even more brownie points
with your members? In addition to a
Member FAQ page, create a custom
Member Dashboard landing page!
■Add quick links to member-only
content they can access throughout
the website, such as important
documents
■Display dynamic feeds for new
content such as upcoming events,
press, and job listings
■Display new members themselves!
Figure 11: An example of new member benefits is
highlighting new members to boost their chances of
engaging with other members.
❖Now that you have generated the content you
intend to share with your new and imported
members, you will want to communicate this to
them.
➢If you are integrated with a mail sending
service provider, send a newsletter email
blast to all members!
➢Also use the above strategy (integration with
a mail sending service provider) to
communicate directly with members based
on their application criteria.
➢Set up custom automated notices
❖Set up Forums to allow members to communicate
with each other through your Tendenci site
➢Private or members only
➢Public forums are not recommended for
security purposes

❖Sending Newsletters
➢Navigate to your Membership Engagement Apps
➢Select the Group you are sending to, if not all members
➢Create Your Email Subject Line
➢Personalize your Newsletter
➢If your organization is very active, include dynamic
content from specific date ranges
➢Select your template and whether short or long form
■Note: specific newsletter templates can be
pulled down and modified in your theme editor,
but your smartest solution is cloning existing
newsletters
Figure 12: Sending a periodic Newsletter to your
members and users is a great way to communicate
updates and keep them engaged.

❖Using your Membership
Application(s)
➢Navigate to your
Memberships module in the
admin backend.
➢Select “Membership
Applications”
➢For the Application
containing members you’d
like to communicate to,
select “Search Members”
Figure 13: If you have SMTP protocol enabled via integration with a mail sending
service, navigate to your Membership Application(s) in the admin backend, then utilize
the Membership Application filters to communicate with subsets of your members
based on their application criteria
Tendenci Membership Management
Member Communication
❖Using your Membership Application(s)
➢Set whichever application criteria filters
you’d like, if any, on the left side vertical
menu
■Ex: If you are looking for
volunteers, filter by only folks who
have checked “yes” to volunteer
availability!
➢Scroll down to expand the “Show Email
Form”
➢Create your own subject line and
message. You can even include
personalized tokens!
Figure 14: Use tokens like {{ first_name }} to create a personalized
message to send to subsets of your members.

❖Setting up custom Membership Notices
➢Set up notices for the following
membership database triggers:
■Join Date
●Approval
●Disapproval
■Renewal Date
●Approval
●Disapproval
■Expiration Date
➢Set up granular notices for each
Membership Type or for all members
Figure 15: Use tokens like {{ renew_link }} and get creative while
writing your custom membership notices!

❖Setting up Membership Forums
➢Set up private Forums for your members to
engage with each other!
■Navigate to your “Member
Engagement” Apps
■Select “Forums”
■From your Forums dropdown menu
select “Manage Categories”
■Create a new Private Category and
assign your Members/user groups
●Make sure to assign “change”
permissions as well as “view”.
This allows those users to post!
Figure 16: Create a new Forums category and assign a specific
group view and change permissions, allowing them (and them
only) to engage with other members of this group!
Tendenci Membership Management
Member Communication
❖Setting up Membership Forums
➢After creating your category, you
can create the individual Forum
threads
■This part can be done on the
frontend or backend of
Tendenci
➢After you create Forum threads, get
the ball rolling and make a post for
members of the Forum to engage
with!
■Creating a post with an open
ended question spurs
discussion
■Create a poll!

Tendenci private Forums!
