MEP BOQ EXPORTER BY MOHAMAD ASHRAF

CONTENTS About the add-in Before using the Add-in UI Overview Keynote Table Assigning keynotes to element types Assign sub-discipline and description parameter to each element type Add-in algorithm and code snippets Things to be improved

About the add-in MEP BOQ EXPORTER can be used to collect elements related to MEP field and do sorting & grouping according to Masterformat . the MasterFormat is an indexing system for the organization of construction data. The information is organized in title divisions, such as electrical, mechanical, procurement and contracting requirements, HVAC and thermal protection. Every element is grouped to its related division. The add-in can count the number of elements for each item(type), calculate weight of ducts and sort them according to their classification and and calculate length of pipes according to system type of the pipe. MEP BOQ EXPORTER is simple to use and much easier than creating schedules, gives accurate quantification of the MEP model. The add-in is compatible with Revit versions from 2020 to 2024/

BEFORE USING THE ADDIN The add-in requires some rules to function properly. 1- Using Keynote table of recent Masterformat version. 2- Assign Keynote (Division) for each element type used in the document 3- Assign sub-discipline for each element type used in the document 4- create a project parameter for description purposes (BOQ_DESCRIPTION) and assign it to each element type used in the document

UI OVERVIEW The addin UI is very simple. It consists of a button to export the element types used in the document which are missing required data needed. it consists of a checkbox for each sub-discipline for exporting desired sub-discipline The help button shows a readme text file that helps the user on how to use the add-in and which parameters to add/use in the document, the unit type of family parameters to use when gathering data on elements like mechanical equipment.

Keynote table Keynote table is a text file consists of all groups, subgroups, divisions, and subdivisions in the Masterformat document The keynote table can be imported to revit from Anotate tab, Keynote, Keynote settings, and browse for the text file.

Assigning keynotes to element types In order to sort the elements of model to be used in the addin we have to assign values of keynote type parameter for each element type Keynotes contain two values: Keynote value and Keynote text.

Assign sub-discipline and description parameter to each element type

Add-in algorithm and code snippets (duct size calculation)

code snippets (pre-2022 vs post-2022)

Things to BE ADDED in the future REPLACE DUCT TYPE IN DUCT SIZING INSTEAD OF DUCT CLASSIFICATION TO ALLOW SIZING OF CUSTOM DUCT TYPES (FRESH AIR, SMOKE MANAGEMENT DUCT ETC) ALLOW USERS TO ADD DESIRED PARAMETERS OF ELEMENT TYPE BEING QUANTIFIED IN THE BOQ SHEET ADD A UI INSIDE THE ADDIN THAT ALLOWS USER TO MODIFY THE ELEMENT PARAMETERS NEEDED FOR THE ELEMENTS TO BE QUANTIFIED INSTEAD OF EXPORTING A MISSING DATA SHEET

THANK YOU.
