CURRENT SOCIAL ISSUES IN TAMIL NADU Sharan.s – bsc ( cs )& bmsc

Methane project & hydrocarbon issu e

To create awareness among the students about these kind of projects which will affect our environment and life resource of all biotics This study will help people and organizations to take account of damages to biodiversity, water and land resources with miming projects Objective

Right now there are many social issues in tamil nadu . But,we are mainly focus on this topic “METHANE GAS and as HYDROCARBON PROJECT” This issue cause CANCER to our mother land INTRODUCTION

In,1991 near thanjavur district in farmer marimuthu’s land he was cheeted as taking petroleum in his land cheeted by giving money to him. The first methane well was launced in marimuthu’s land without his knowlege This effect showed his land on 2010. HISTORY OF THIS ISSUE

On july 29, 2010 GEECL(great eastern energy corporation ltd ) they got licens in a biding to extract methane gas and coal deposit in mannarkudi block of thrivarur distict in the kaveri basin from the ministry of petroleum and natural gas The company has plan to drill more than 50 crore production well of 500-1500ft deep in the ground

In 2011 (DMK) allows this project(PEL) in tamil nadu Now-a-days they were first to oppose this issue there were no official support from the present government they were supporting only through medias , speakes and ect ….. But no offical support In 2015 . PM Jayalalitha opposes this issue as METHANE GAS signed to banned this issue . Banned issue came toTamil nadu re- named as HYDRO CARBON PROJECT.

In september 2012 the union ministry for environment and forests (MOEF) issued environmental clearance to the project Present state government of tamilnadu temporarily suspended the project citing issues raised by the farmer

After tat this same methane project ….just name changed as hydrocarbon

In before days they were not an awareness of this issue in farmers but after hearing the effects of hydro carbon in media’s they were opposing now . After jillikattu issu public become aware of this project it was fevently opposed by the famers of kaveri delta region Protesters often cite the possiblity of harmful and dangerous effects of the project to agriculture and life in the region Why they were opposing?

Ground water depletion Salt water intrusion Surface water discharge Chemical contamination Large contamination Large scale environmental effects IMPACT OF METHANE EXTRACTION

Hydrocarbon is a compound of hydrogen and carbon such as any of those which are the chief components of petroleum and natural gas …… 46% electricity extracted from oil & coal for electricity hydrocarbons were used Okay we said what are the consequence of this project now we see what is hydro-carbon uses and alternative solution….

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT INDIA?

For one year --- 14-15 million methane gas escaped from ground to atmosphere . Main importance is WASTE.This waste contains methane. Alternative solution

In india, big city's of total budget 27,000 crore In this 2,300 crore for solid waste We are paying 10% of tax for solid waste management Alternative solution

We have 100% rights to say about this issue in various places. We have to do this kind of research in future to help for our society as a sociologist our prime duity is to explain the problem as well as the benefits related to this issue and needs a great awareness among the rural mass According to the gov of india as well as the gov of tn view ther are possibility's to provide employment opp fa youghts regarding assonated with the hydrocarbon project As a sociologist, what is our role?

We are blaming oil factory “but this factory mainly needs money”.whether it is good or bad decision which has to take by the tamilnadu government not state government We create awareness programs in school's & college’s and another way is to convey message in what’s app & face book and by giving the advertistment in media, press etc …. we want to save our mother land its our duty CONCLUSION
