Introduction IT enabled instructional materials support learning content content , allow students to engage on the application of concepts & provide an opportunity for evaluation. They are developed to facilitate learner understanding. Videos and film clippings are two important IT enabled instructional resources. Both enhance teaching – learning process.

VIDEOS Video is an electronic medium for recording , copying , play back , broadcasting & display of moving visual media. It is a visual multi media source that combines a sequence of images to form a moving picture . Video is a clearly an instructional medium that is compelling & generates a much greater amount of interest and enjoyment than the more traditional printed material.

use of video in the classroom Teacher who use instructional video report that their students retain more information, understand concept more rapidly . With video as one component in a thoughtful lesson plan, student often make new connection between curriculum topics and discover links between these topics & the world outside the classroom

Video is uniquely suited to Take students on impossible field trips or historical places- off to jupiter , space. Take students around the glob , to meet new people & hear their ideas. Illustrate complex, abstract concept through animated, 3-D images-tsunami. Show experiments that can’t be done in class. Bring great litterature , play music, or important scenes from history in to the room.

Disadvantages It is expensive & time consuming The teacher can’t manage their classroom time when they use videos in classroom Videos or data projectors are more complicated to use and teachers must be familiar with the equipment before the class starts. The feeling between teacher & students may be reduced

Film clippings Film clippings is a strip of motion picture film, especially an excerpt from a longer film or one inserted as part of another presentation, asa of a telecast or full- length motion picture. The teacher has to consider is what kind of movie he or she want to show to the students, such as a documentary , a docudrama, or a historical fiction. while deciding on what movie to use in the classroom, the teacher must also consider -age of the audience, language of the film, consistency with the values that are promoted on the home land and community.

Advantages Students come in to contact with diversity : cultural varieties, social awareness The world is brought into the classroom Film go hand in hand with entertainment, thus being extremely appealing & motivating to students of all ages. It develop students self esteem It provide students with both visual & auditory inputs It helps to develop the language skills

Disadvantages Some movies , portray, certain subjects or themes in a way which is far from real Wastage of money & time Some film clippings contain no information value

Conclusion The videos & film clippings are useful instructional materials in teaching learning process. They give additional information to the pupils . It motivates the students in the field of education & helps to develop skills and cognitive process.
