What Is a Research Methodology In a research proposal

Your research methodology Discusses and explains the  data collection  and analysis methods you used in your research.

What is Data Collection?

What is Data Collection? Data collection is the process of gathering and measuring information on variables of interest, in an established systematic fashion that enables one to answer stated research questions, test hypotheses, and evaluate outcomes

What is Analysis Methods? The qualitative data analysis approach refers to  the process of systematizing descriptive data collected through interviews, surveys, and observations and interpreting it . The method aims to identify patterns and themes behind textual data.

What is Analysis Methods? Quantitative data analysis is  the process of analyzing and interpreting numerical data . It helps you make sense of information by identifying patterns, trends, and relationships between variables through mathematical calculations and statistical tests

Research Methodology section is a key part of your research proposal

BUILDING A RESEARCH METHODOLOGY WHAT IS YOUR RESEARCH TYPE WHO ARE THE POPULATION AND SAMPLE WHAT ARE THE RESEARCH METHODS TO BE USED

Research Methodology section explains  what you plan to do and how you plan to do it allowing readers to evaluate the  reliability and validity  of your research and your  research proposal

What is your research type “ This qualitative study determined how residents felt about CGIs and their efficacy in fostering safer communities “ “Merriam (2019 ) de scribes Qualitative research focuses on obtaining the reasons, motives, actions, and opinions to gain insight and allows researchers to delve deeply into a topic.” Qualitative research is primarily exploratory research used to understand underlying r”easons , beliefs, and motivations ( Heigham & Croker, 2009). “ “This exploratory technique, which includes discussions, interviews, and open-ended responses, is best suited to understand why a given problem exists (Walls, 2017). “

WHO ARE THE POPULATION AND SAMPLE? Los Angeles County, California, served as the study's setting. This location was appealing because of its proximity to gang injunction hotspots and the researcher's knowledge of enjoined neighborhoods. ““ The Rancho San Pedro gang, popularly known as "RSP," is a Mexican American street gang founded in the 1970s. RSP was the target of a significant law enforcement operation in 2011, known as "Operation Pirate Town," in which 1,300 law enforcement officers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) and the Los Angeles Police (LAPD) detained 80 alleged RSP members and associates Walls, 2017). “

WHO ARE THE POPULATION AND SAMPLE? “ Potential participants were required to acknowledge they were between 18 and 75 years old and resided in and frequented public spaces of San Pedro or Redondo Beach, CA. The participants then signed the required consent form for the current study. “ “the snowball sampling technique used in the current study’s research design resulted in the limited inclusion of 8 participants ” The research design also included purposeful criterion sampling for this study (Creswell & Poth, 2018). Purposeful criterion sampling creates a complete picture of all the research that meets pre-determined criteria. The participant was between 18 and 75 years old and resided in and frequented public spaces of San Pedro or Redondo Beach, CA.” ”Snowball sampling utilizes an intentional criterion in the hermeneutic phenomenological design to choose the eight participants from the semi-structured interview data for this study. “

WHAT ARE THE RESEARCH METHODS TO BE USED ? “ More important than the exact number of respondents in the current study was obtaining detailed, rich data from interviews with the same small sample of participants (Morse, 2000). “ “Each interview opened with the introductory script (Appendix E) to refresh each participant’s information about CGIs and to put them on more of an even playing field, so to speak, across interviews to confirm purposeful sampling was met “ “The current study gathered data via semi-structured one-on-one interviews, using reflective notes for data analysis “

WHAT ARE THE RESEARCH METHODS TO BE USED ? “ Although observations are the most common method of collecting relevant data in quantitative studies, interviews are commonly utilized in qualitative research (Creswell & Poth, 2018). Interviews allow a more in-depth understanding of the circumstance, phenomenon, or individual. When contrasted with observation, interviews reveal more reliable data.   “Interviews assist a researcher in explaining, better understanding, and exploring participants' viewpoints, experiences, and phenomena. Semi-structured interviews were the primary source for data collection in this study. Many interview questions in qualitative research design are semi-structured and open-ended, allowing the researcher to gather detailed information (Creswell & Poth, 2018). “

The Research Proposal Section must include  The  type of research  you conducted How you collected and  analyzed  your data Any tools, methods or materials you used in the research How you mitigated or avoided  research biases Why you chose these methods
