WEEK I MONDAY Psalms 119a 7 TUESDAY Psalms 119 b 12 WEDNESDAY Psalms 119c 14 THURSDAY Psalms 119d 28 FRIDAY Psalms 119e 22 SATURDAY Psalms 37

WEEK I: MONDAY Psalms 119 a 7

Psalm 119a I They are happy whose life is blameless, * who follow God’s Law! II They are happy those who do his will, seeking him with all their hearts, * who never do anything evil but walk in his ways. I You have laid down your precepts to be obeyed with care. * May my footsteps be firm to obey your statutes. II Then I shall not be put to shame as I heed your commands. * I will thank you with an upright heart as I learn your decrees. I I will obey your statutes, * do not forsake me. ∆

Psalm 7 : Appeal to God’s Justice Ant. God comes in power + to give his people justice. (Alleluia) I Lord, God, I take refuge in you. * From my pursuers save me and rescue me,/ lest they tear me to pieces like a lion/ and drag me off with no one to rescue me. II Lord God, if my hands have done wrong,/ if I have paid back evil for good, / I who save my unjust oppressor, * then let my foes pursue me and seize me,/ let them trample my life to the ground and lay my soul in the dust. I Lord, rise up in your anger,/ rise against the fury of my foes, * my God, awake!/ You will give judgment.

II Let the company of nations gather round you, take your seat about them on high. * The Lord is judge of the peoples. I Give judgment for me, Lord; * I am just and innocent of heart. II Put an end to the evil of the wicked! * Make the just stand firm,/ you who test mind and heart, O just God!

I God is the shield that protects me, * who saves the upright of heart. II God is a just judge slow to anger, * But he threatens the wicked every day, / those who will not repent. I God will sharpen his sword; * he has braced his bow and taken aim.

II For them he has prepared deadly weapons; * he barbs his arrow with fire. I Here are those who are pregnant with malice,/ conceive evil and bring forth lies. * They dig a pitfall, dig it deep; / and in the trap they have made they will fall. II Their malice will recoil on themselves; * on their own heads their violence will fall.

C I will thank the Lord for his justice: * I will sing to the Lord the Most High. ∆ (Ant.) Ant. God comes in power + to give his people justice. (Alleluia)

12 Truth in a Word of Lies Ant. The words + of the Lord are true, like silver from the furnace. (Alleluia) I Help, O Lord, for good people have vanished:/ truth has gone from humankind. * Falsehood they speak to one another,/ with lying lips,/ with a false heart. II May the Lord destroy all lying lips,/ the tongue that speaks high-sounding words, * those who say: “Our tongue is our strength;/ our lips are our own,/ who is our master?”

I “For the poor who are oppressed and the needy who groan I myself will arise.”/ says the Lord. * “I will grant them salvation for which they thirst.” II The words of the Lord are words without alloy, * silver from the furnace, seven times refined. A O my God, I call by day and you give no reply; * I call by night and I find no peace. C Yet you, O God, are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. * In you our ancestors put their trust;/ they trusted and you set them free. I Many dogs have surrounded me,/ a band of the wicked beset me. * They tear holes in my hands and my feet and lay me in the dust of death. II I can count every one of my bones. * These people stare at me and gloat;/ they divide my clothing among them./ They cast lots for my robe. I Lord, do not leave me alone, * my strength make haste to help me!

II Rescue my soul from the sword,/ my life from the grip of these dogs. * Save my life from the jaws of these lions,/ my poor soul from the horns of these oxen. A They shall worship him, all the mighty of the earth; * before him shall bow all who go down to the dust. Week I: SATURDAY Psalms 37

Reflections on Good and Evil: An Alphabetical Psalm Ant. Commit your life + to the Lord and trust in him. (Alleluia) C Do not fret because of the wicked;/ do not envy those who do evil: * for they wither quickly like grass and fade like the green of the fields. A If you trust in the Lord and do good, / then you will live in the land and be secure. * If you find your delight in the Lord, he will grant your heart’s desire. C Commit your life to the Lord,/ trust in him and he will act, * so that your justice breaks forth like the light,/ your cause like the noon-day sun.

A Be still before the Lord and wait in patience; * do not fret over those who prosper in their way,/ over those who carry out evil plots to bring down the needy and the poor. C Calm your anger and forget your rage; / do not fret, it only leads to evil. * For those who do evil shall perish;/ the patient shall inherit the land. A Little longer-- / and the wicked shall have gone./ Look at their place, they are not there. * But the humble shall own the land and enjoy the fullness of peace. ( Ant. )

I The wicked plot against the just and gnash their teeth against them; * but the Lord laughs at the wicked for he sees that their day is at hand. II The sword of the wicked is drawn,/ their bows are bent to slaughter the upright. * Their sword shall pierce their own hearts and their bows shall be broken to pieces. I The few possessions of the just are better than the wealth of the wicked; * for the power of the wicked shall be broken/ and the Lord will support the just.

II He protects the lives of the upright,/ their heritage will last forever. * They shall not be put to shame in evil days,/ in time of famine their food shall not fail. I But all the wicked shall perish and all the enemies of the Lord. * They are like the beauty of the meadows,/ they shall vanish,/ they shall vanish like the smoke. II The wicked borrows without repaying,/ but the just is generous and gives. * Those blessed by the Lord shall own the land,/ but those he has cursed shall be destroyed.

I The Lord guides the steps of all and makes safe the path of those he loves, * Though they stumble they shall never fall for the Lord holds them by the hand. ( Ant. ) C I was young and now I am old,/ but I have never seen the just forsaken/ nor their children begging for bread. * All the day they are generous and lend and their children become a blessing. A Then run away from evil and do good/ and you shall have a home for ever, * for the Lord loves justice and will never forsake his friends.

C The unjust shall be wiped out for ever and the children of the wicked destroyed. * The just shall inherit the land;/ there they shall live for ever. A The mouths of the just utter wisdom and their lips speak what is right; * the law of God is in their hearts,/ their steps shall be saved from stumbling. C The wicked watch for the just and seek occasion to kill them. * The Lord will not leave them in their power/nor let them be condemned when they are judged. Ant. Commit your life + to the Lord and trust in him. (Alleluia)

A Then wait for the Lord, / keep to his way. * It is he who will free you from the wicked,/ raise you up to possess the land and see the wicked destroyed. C I have seen the wicked triumphant, towering like a cedar of Lebanon * passed by again; / they were gone./ I searched; they were nowhere to be found. A See the just, / mark the upright,/ for the peaceful a future lies in store, * but sinners shall be destroyed./ No future lies in store for the wicked. C The salvation of the just comes from the Lord, / their stronghold in time of distress. *The Lord helps them and delivers them and saves them:/ for their refuge is in him. ( ant. ) Ant. Commit your life + to the Lord and trust in him. (Alleluia)
