The story II. Title, Summary, Characters, Setting, Plot, Conflict, Themes, Excerpt

Pip visits Miss Havisham, a wealthy and eccentric old woman who was jilted on her wedding day. He falls in love with her adopted daughter Estella, who is cold and cruel to him. Pip asks for Miss Havisham’s forgiveness for his ingratitude. She dies after accidentally setting herself on fire. Pip tries to help Magwitch escape by boat, but they are caught by Compeyson and the authorities. Magwitch kills Compeyson but dies in prison. Pip loses his fortune as it is forfeited to the crown. Pip is an orphan who lives with his sister and her husband Joe, a blacksmith, in Kent. He helps an escaped convict named Magwitch, who later becomes his secret benefactor. The novel has two different endings: in the original ending, Pip meets Estella again and they part as friends; in the revised ending, Pip meets Estella again and they walk away hand in hand, implying that they will marry. Pip learns that his benefactor is Magwitch, who is in danger of being arrested. He decides to help him escape with the help of his friend Herbert. Pip falls ill and is nursed by Joe, who pays off his debts and marries Biddy. Pip realizes his mistakes and decides to start a new life. Pip discovers that Estella is the daughter of Magwitch and a convict named Molly. He also learns that Miss Havisham’s half-brother and his friend Compeyson ruined her wedding and are Magwitch’s enemies. Pip receives a large fortune from an anonymous source and goes to London to become a gentleman. He thinks that Miss Havisham is his patron and that she wants him to marry Estella.
