A   MINOR PROJECT   ON   “ SOLID WASTE MANAGEMEN T”   Submitted to   CHHATTISHGARH SWAMI VIVEKANAND TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY, BHILAI   in the partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of Degree   of   Bachelor of Engineering   In   civil Engineering HARISH KUMAR BHASKAR DEWANGAN   Under the Guidance of   POOJA SINGH HOD: INDRA JAIN   Department of civil Engineering Bharti college of Engineering and Technology Pulgaon Chowk Durg , C.G. Solid Waste Management Solid waste is that material (such as domestic trash, garbage, metal scrap etc) which arises from various human activities and which is normally discarded as useless or unwanted. It is responsible for land pollution in urban and industrial areas.

Solid Waste Management Garbage – Is refers to the putrescible solid waste(solid waste that contains organic matter capable of being decomposed by microorganism) constituents produced during the preparation or storage of meat, vegetables, etc.

Rubbish – Is the non - putrescible solid waste constituent, either combustible or non combustible. Combustible waste includes paper, wood, scrap, rubber, leather , etc. Non-combustible wastes are metals ,glass, ceramic etc. Solid Waste Management

Refuse – It means the decomposing and non – decomposing combustible and non – combustible solid waste such as garbage , ashes , paper , cans , plastic etc. Solid Waste Management

Indiscriminate disposal of solid waste – especially of hazardous waste causes adverse environment effects. The main objective of solid waste management is to minimize these adverse effects before it becomes too difficult to rectify in the future. Solid Waste Management

Large no of dustbin must be provided to enable proper collection of solid waste according to categories. Solid Waste Management

Door to door collection of domestic garbage , is the most common and popular practice. Solid Waste Management

Rag pickers contribute to waste management . They segregate recyclable materials from other wastes and hence save the cost and time. Solid Waste Management

Transportation of solid waste from urban areas to the dumping grounds with the help of tractors , trucks etc. Solid Waste Management

Over – consumption and waste of commodities can be checked by adopting the five R of consumption. 4 R of Solid Waste Management

Reduse Solid Waste Management

Reuse – Solid Waste Management

Recycle – Solid Waste Management

Repair – Solid Waste Management

Solid Waste Management Role of an Individual in prevention of Pollution More plantation. Use good quality of fuels in automobiles. Reduse the use of automobiles. Minimize the use of pesticides, insecticides, fertilizer in manner. Save electricity by using more natural renewable energy. Use non biodegredable materials.
