FH TRAINING & CONSULTANCY Desktop Drill for Fire and Medical Emergency

Desktop Drill for Fire and Medical Emergency Purpose: To prepare the Emergency Response Team (ERT) for effective management and response to fire and medical emergencies through a tabletop exercise.

Participants: Emergency Manager Incident Controller Historian Public Relations Floor Wardens Evacuation Controller Fire Fighting Team Search and Rescue Team First Aid Team Drill Overview: This desktop drill will simulate a combined fire and medical emergency scenario, allowing the ERT to practice coordination, communication, and decision-making processes. The drill will be conducted in a conference room with all team members present .

Objectives: 1. Ensure all employees evacuate the building safely. 2. Coordinate fire response actions. 3. Provide immediate medical attention to the injured employee. 4. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders

Emergency Manager -Assess the situation and activate the emergency response plan. - Coordinate with the Fire Warden and First Aid Team. - Communicate with emergency services and building management. - Ensure all actions are documented.

Incident Controller - Takes charge of the incident site. -Communicates with the Emergency Manager and coordinates the response. -Provides instructions to the ERT members. -Maintains a log of events and decisions.

Historian - Operates from Fire Control Room - ensure incident are recorded in the incident book. -record all event and action taken. -ensure incidents books and training log are updated.

Public Relation - Operates from Fire Control Room - Deal with media. -Deal With Family Contacts. -ensure no unauthorized information being released to the media.

Floor Warden: - Activate the fire alarm if not already activated. - Ensure the fire is reported to the ERT Leader and emergency services. - Guide employees towards the nearest safe exit. - Conduct a sweep of the area to ensure no one is left behind. - Use fire extinguishers if trained and safe to do so.

First Aid Team: - Provide immediate medical attention to the injured employee. - Assess the injury and decide if further medical assistance is needed. - Keep the ERT Leader updated on the injured employee's condition.

Evacuation Controller: - Guide employees to the designated evacuation points. - Ensure all employees have evacuated safely. - Report to the ERT Leader once evacuation is complete.

Fire Fighting Team Responds to the fire alarm and proceeds to the incident site. Uses fire extinguishers, hoses, and other equipment to combat the fire. Ensures the safety of team members while fighting the fire. Provides updates to the Incident Controller on the fire situation.

Search and Rescue Team Searches for any missing or trapped individuals. Works closely with the Floor Wardens to confirm all personnel are accounted for. Assists in evacuating injured or immobile individuals. Reports findings to the Incident Controller.

Scenario Overview: A fire has broken out on the third floor of the building, and there are reports of several individuals with injuries due to smoke inhalation and minor burns. The goal is to evacuate all occupants safely, extinguish the fire, rescue any trapped individuals, and provide necessary medical assistance.

Phase 1: Fire Emergency Activation : Fire alarm sounds. The Incident Controller receives a simulated call reporting a fire on a specific floor. Initial Response : Floor Wardens ensure everyone on their floor is aware of the alarm and begins evacuation. Fire Fighting Team proceeds to the incident site to assess and combat the fire.

Phase 1: Fire Emergency Evacuation : Floor Wardens guide evacuees to the nearest exits and designated assembly points. Evacuation Controller monitors the evacuation process and receives status updates from Floor Wardens.

Phase 1: Fire Emergency Fire Fighting : Fire Fighting Team attempts to extinguish the fire using available equipment. Incident Controller communicates with the Fire Fighting Team for updates. Search and Rescue : Search and Rescue Team conducts a sweep of the affected area to ensure no one is left behind. Any found individuals are assisted and evacuated.

Phase 2: Medical Emergency Activation : A simulated medical emergency is reported, with one or more individuals requiring immediate medical attention. Initial Response : First Aid Team sets up a first aid station and proceeds to the incident site.

Phase 2: Medical Emergency Search and Rescue Team assists in moving injured individuals to the first aid station if necessary. Medical Assistance : First Aid Team provides necessary medical care to the injured. Incident Controller coordinates with the First Aid Team and evaluates if further medical help is required.

Phase 2: Medical Emergency Evaluation and Communication : All teams report back to the Incident Controller with their status and any injuries. Emergency Manager evaluates the overall response and communicates with external emergency services if needed.

Debriefing: Gather all participants at a designated location. Discuss the drill, highlighting what went well and identifying areas for improvement. Feedback: Collect feedback from all participants to understand their perspectives and suggestions. Evaluation: Emergency Manager and Incident Controller evaluate the performance of the ERT team. Develop an action plan to address any identified weaknesses or gaps in the response.
