•Monet’s Impression: Sunrise kick started the
Modern Art movement
•Art movement coincided with Industrial age
•Invention of Photography impacted Modern art by
taking away the artist role in documentation: freed
artists to pursue creative aspects of
medium/technique
•Reflected the rapid changes in society…rapid

•Dominant theory held that artworks needed to stay
true to the inherent qualities of medium/technique
