Topic : Modern Surveying Instrument Subject:- Industrial Training (ITR) 22057 - Presented by: Shubham Nagare (TY CE - 18)

WHAT IS SURVEYING ? Surveying is the process of analyzing and recording the characteristics of land area span to help design a plan or map for construction.

OBJECTIVES OF SURVEYING : To Collect the field data. To prepare plan or map of the area surveyed. To analyze and calculate the field parameters for setting out operation of actual engineering work.

MODERN SURVEYING INSTRUMENT : EDM (Electronic distance measurement instrument) Electronic Theodolite Total station (TS) Autonomus hydrographic survey boat

Electronic Distance Measurement Instrument 1. Electronic distance measurement instrument (EDM) Electronic distance measurement (EDM) is a method of determining the length between two points using electromagnetic waves. EDM instruments are highly reliable and convenient pieces of surveying equipment and can be used to measure distances of up to 100 kilometers. They have accuracy up to 1 in 10^5.

2. Electronic Digital Theodolite Electronic Digital Theodolite A Theodolite is an instrument which is used primarily to measure angles, both horizontal and vertical. Electronic digital theodolite is a precision instrument for measuring angles in the horizontal and vertical planes. Electronic digital theodolite have been adopted for specialized purposes in fields like metrology and rocket launch technology.

3.Total station (TS) A total station is a surveying instrument that combines an electronic  theodolite  and an electronic distance meter (EDM) to provide accurate measurements of both horizontal and vertical angles as well as distances. It is commonly used in construction, engineering, and land surveying projects to collect data for creating detailed maps, plans, and 3D models. A typical total station can measure distances up to 1,500 meters (4,900 ft) with an accuracy of about 1.5 millimeters (0.059 in) ± 2 parts per million. Total station (TS)

4. Autonomus hydrographic survey boat During September 2017, the world’s first autonomous hydrographic survey was performed. The UAV survey collects high resolution topographic data which though not normally a hydrographic deliverable is highly accurate data that is very useful to coastal engineers. By mapping out water depth, the shape of the seafloor and coastline, the location of possible obstructions and physical features of water bodies, hydrography helps to keep our maritime transportation system moving safely and efficiently.
