What is Kitchen?
Akitchenis a room or part of a room used forcookingandfood preparationin a dwelling or in a
commercial establishment. The main functions of a kitchen are to store, prepare and cook food
(and to complete related tasks such asdishwashing). The room or area may also be used
fordining(or small meals such as breakfast),entertainingandlaundry. The design and
construction of kitchens is a huge market all over the world.
What is Modular Kitchen Design?
★An approach that subdivides a system into smaller parts called modules.
★These modules can be independently created and then used in different systems.
★All the modules are scalable, reusable and replaceable.
★There are many advantages of having a modular kitchen design –
1.Luxury
2.Comfort
3.Storage
4.Matching Appliances
5.Healthy Lifestyle

1.Luxury-Modular Kitchens are affordable and offer high end features like LED
lighting, Power Corners, Sliding Units that make your kitchen experience
Luxurious!
2.Comfort-The myth that comfort and luxury can’t go hand in hand is
completely busted by Modular Designs. They not only offer luxury but are very
comfortable to use, maintain and repair.
3.Storage-Since modular design focuses on modules and individual units, the
problem of storage and design is solved simultaneously. Modular kitchens offer
ample storage with well designed units.
4.Matching Appliances-As part of modular kitchen design, many brands offer
appliances that match with the design and theme of the model. This is a great
advantage as it saves time & money which one would otherwise spend in
buying appliances separately.
5.Healthy Lifestyle-A healthy kitchen automatically leads to a healthy lifestyle.
So having a modular kitchen design will ultimately lead to a healthy lifestyle.

The Six Types of Modular Kitchen Layouts
The six most common modularkitchenlayouts are the L-Shaped, Straight Line, U-Shaped, Parallel or Galley, Island and
Peninsula –each of these has it’s own advantages and makes use of the work triangle differently.
1.L-Shaped Modular Kitchen Layout
This is one of the most commonly foundkitchen layouts.TheL-shaped Modular Kitchen layoutis ideal for smaller homes
as it makes maximum use of the available floor space. It gives you maximum storage and lets you easily incorporate a
small dining table within your kitchen.

2.Straight Modular Kitchen Layout
Unlike other layouts, this type of kitchen does not employ awork triangleas such –the
workflow is based on a straight line. This layout is ideal for studio and loft apartments
–it keeps your kitchen space to a minimum while still maintaining optimum efficiency.

3. U or C-Shaped Modular Kitchen Layout
If your home has a large kitchen space, you might be able to fit aU-shaped
kitchen layoutin it. This layout has the most efficient work triangle and provides
the most storage space as well (with plenty of upper, lower cabinets and tall
units as well). You will also be able to have plenty ofcounterspace, making it
ideal for more than one person to use the kitchen at a time.

4. ParallelShaped Kitchen or Galley Kitchen Layout
When it comes to cooking, theparallel kitchenis quite possibly the most
efficient layout. With two, long working areas that face each other, it can be
split into ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ workspaces. It provides lots of counter space,
storage and allows plenty of room for movement as well. The parallel
kitchen is suitable for most types of homes and is easily adaptable to your
needs.

5. Open space or Island Modular Kitchen Layout
For many people, getting an island kitchen is the dream! It’s a beautiful, contemporary
option if you have the space for it. It combines either a straight line or L-shaped kitchen
model with an unconnected island space. The island can be used as an extra counter area
or breakfast nook, bar counter or your favouritebaking nook. It can also be equipped with a
sink or stovetop. With two opposing working areas and storage spaces, this kitchen layout is
ideal for open plan living and for entertaining.
Because of its multiple uses, these kitchens become the heart of the home, where the
entire family gathers to cook, eat and converse.

6. G-Shaped or Peninsula Modular Kitchen
Similar to an island kitchen, a peninsula kitchen layout has a free-standing workspace that
provides a secondary counter, work orentertainment area. Unlike an island, this peninsula
is connected to the mainworkspace; making it accessible from three, rather than four
sides. Often considered the ideal layout for homes with small kitchen areas, the peninsula
provides all the advantages of an island worktop while utilizing less floor space.
