WELCOME, STUDENTS!

Module 5 – employing analytical listening in problem solving

OBJECTIVES: utilize frequently used adverbs of affirmation and negation in analytical listening; analyze social contexts and experiences in the new normal; use reliable sources in writing an essay; and relate to the lessons brought about by the personal experiences and situations in the new normal.

Analytical Listening is the ability and the capacity to properly analyze what is being said. This not only means understanding what the other person is saying, you can also analyze through texts, symbols, situations, or conversations. What is analytical listening?

I will definitely do that homework. I will never do that homework. Differentiate:

An adverb used in a sentence to affirm it as true Can be used in agreeing to arguments or in expressing a sure or positive answer ADVERB OF AFFIRMATION absolutely affirmatively all right assertedly avowedly by all means

List of frequently used words of affirmation certainly clearly completely decisively definitely doubtlessly entirely exactly indeed obviously positively really sure/surely totally truly undoubtedly verily yes

Examples: The sun was positively bright and yet, only few people were there to witness it. I do things not only for myself anymore, but definitely for others as well. I exactly know the right thing to do.

Examples: This is not the time to be unprotected and sick, so I am truly hoping that our frontliners will all remain healthy and safe. Their service is indeed beyond description and I am sure that the world is grateful.

Negation is completely opposite from affirmation. used in a sentence to deny it as true can also be used in disagreeing to arguments or in expressing a disbelief or negative answer ADVERB OF Negation almost any barely contradictorily hardly

Words ending in ‘ not ’ (including contraction) and words starting with no- are also examples of negation. Some of their examples are have not , do not , cannot , nowhere , etc. ADVERB OF Negation invalidly never no/not rarely scarcely

Examples: I am blessed that I am with my family, and we are all safe and not ill. I barely get to see the people close to me in person these days. I almost ran out of words.

Examples: I had the chance to bump into an old friend. We usually hug and kiss each other in the cheek whenever we meet, but that time, we did not even shake hands or get closer at all. I would not understand the situation unless I see it for myself.

ACTIVITY TIME Like seatworks, student-led activities that can be done by pairs or by group widen their grasp and interpretation of the lesson. Be creative with the activity. Duplicate this page as many times as needed to give you more space for discussion. Add instructions or guidelines here. You can also put in the amount of time allotted for this.
