A verb is a word that indicates a physical action (e.g., “drive”), a mental action (e.g., “think”), or a state of being (e.g., “exist”) . Identify the subject and the verb in the following sentences. 1- Mom baked cookies for us. 2- My best friend is moving away. 3- I went to the park today. 4- Our house has two stories.
Subject Verb Agreement In a sentence, the subject must agree with the verb. If the subject is singular, the verb must also be singular. If the subject is plural, the verb must be plural. Example: He is a good dancer. ( Singular subject and singular verb ) They were late for the party. ( Plural subject and plural verb )

When two different subjects (singular and plural) in the same person are joined by or, either…or, neither…nor, the verb agrees with the subject closest to it. When a noun and pronoun are joined with another noun or pronoun by ‘ with ’ ‘ together with’ , ‘ along with’ , ‘ as well as’ , the verb agrees with the noun or pronoun preceding ‘with’ ‘together with’, ‘along with’, ‘as well as’. Examples: Samir with or (together with) his friends is playing. The teacher as well as the students was present in the meeting. The captain, along with his teammates, has played well.
