MY FRIEND JESUS

Welcome to the 2 nd Year! The 2 nd year ushers you into great opportunities for learning. Undoubtedly, your life will be filled with adventures: as you face a new set of teachers, hurdle new exams, and face new projects and activities. But you do not go through this year alone. In fact you do not have to go through your life alone.

God gives you friends to share your journey through life. More than that, God Himself offers you His friendship. Jesus, our God, can actually walk you through everyday challenges and show you that He is more than our God- He is also your friend who loves you at all times.

At the outset of this year, prepare for a wonderful joyride adventure with your greatest friend: JESUS!

GROUP INTERACTION ( MY IDEAL FRIEND ) In a group of 3, share your idea of a friend. Describe how your friends have helped you in the past. Also, share how you think your friends can help you this school year.

A song about friendship was popularized several years ago and it still is being sung today. This song reminds us that friends can be reliable and trustworthy. As you take time to sing this in class, remember the many friends you have and be excited about the friends God will bless you with this year.

At the end of this lesson, You will… Know that they have a friend in Jesus. Appreciate the friendship that Jesus has for them. Share with others the love and friendship that Jesus offers.

The BIBLE is a book that contains the story of Jesus. In order to know Him as a friend, you must take time to read what the Bible says about Him. We can learn about friendship and on how Jesus qualified to be a real friend:

1. A friend loves at all times A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17

2. A friend is someone who loves us despite our weakness. Jesus did just that when He died for our sins. By doing so, He embraced our filthiness and took upon Himself the sin penalty that we truly deserved. Because He loves us unconditionally, He laid down His life to die for us.

3. A friend sticks closer than a brother. A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24

True friend sticks around no matter what. They love us even when the whole world turn on us. Jesus was ridiculed for loving sinners. While insults and malicious words were hurled at Him, He never failed to love the people despite their offenses.

4. A friend may hurt you for your welfare Wound from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiples kisses. Proverbs 27:6

A true friend does not just tolerate us, but is concerned enough to rebuke us when it’s necessary. Jesus confronted people about her sins, but He also stood ready to accept anyone who chose to believe in Him.

5. A true friend lifts up Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Friend help us get back on our feet again. Jesus was deserted by His closest friends. At this time of His death, His closest friend, Peter, denied Him. But soon after Jesus died and rose again, He restored Peter and gave him another chance .

Share with your class mates instances when you experienced God as a real friend.

Discuss what you should do in order to cultivate your friendship with God.

On a ½ sheet of Paper Jesus modeled what a true friend really is. How about you? What kind of friend are you? Which of the characteristics of a friend do we need to see more in our lives?

AT THE CROSSROADS We, Filipinos, have “Walang Iwanan .” This tell us how friends expect to be faithful to one another. If God, as our friend, assures us that He will never leave us or forsake us, what can we do to show Him that we, too, will stay faithful to Him as a friend? How can we show the same to our earthly friends? If we want to stay true to “Walang Iwanan ,” how far must we go as a friend? What if our friends want us to do something that is totally against our convictions, do we still do it “ for the sake of friendship?” PINOY KASI

Real People, Real Models The beautiful story of the Durer brothers illustrates the touching essence of true friendship. As struggling young artists who were passionate for their craft, both Albrecht and Albert dreamed of taking formal training in the arts. However, due to limited resources, Albert stayed home to work,

So that Albrecht could go to art school. Albert had to endure pain and hard labor in order for Albrecht to finish his studies. When Albrecht returned and began to earn a living, he was ready to send Albert to school, but Albert could no longer pursue his dreams. Years of hard labor had wrenched Albert’s hand, and he was unable to paint anymore. Torn by anguish and pity for his brother, Albrecht sought ways to repay him. One time, Albrecht saw Albert praying. Instantly, Albrecht got his canvas and began painting the hands of dear brother.

Now known as “The Praying Hands,” Albrecht’s painting stands as a testimony of the selfless act of his dear brother, whose hands were worn out, so that his hands could be skillful at painting. Jesus shows us that friendship with God is possible. It is this friendship that give us the confidence to believe that God is here, journeying alongside us. Though we are not equals, God stoops down to our level, and save us so that we can be reconciled back to Him. God never denied us the great privilege of His friendship, even though we are created beings and He is our creator. This is only proves that from the start we were made a relationshio with Him.

It is this relationship with God than can pave the way to better relationships with others. As God ushers us into a meaningful friendship, He actually models for us how to be a friend to others. Because we are loved by Him, we can also love others and just as He has given Himself door us, we can also give ourselves to our friends.

REACH THE PEAK Take note of the following thoughts: Friendship with God is possible. Friendship with God becomes our model for making and keeping friends. Consider the following action steps: Look in: Ask yourself: “ How shuld I respond to Jesus’ offer of friendship?” Would you: A- ask forgiveness for your sins B- believe in Jesus and invite Him to be your friend C - Commit your life Look up: Thank God for the friendship He offers.

Look Around: Appreciate your best friends and tell them how much you value their friendship. Discuss how you can regularly hang out together and cultivate your friendship.

Look Out: Always evaluate if you are becoming selfish or self-centered. Remember that sel -centered spoils relationship.
