Questioning A question is any sentence which has an interrogative form or function. In classroom, teachers questions are defined as instructional cues or stimuli that convey to students the content elements to be learned and directions for what they are to do and how they are to do it. Questioning enables teachers to check learners understanding.
Nature of Questioning in the Classroom Ask recall and comprehension questions to make sure that the students have grasped the basic data Ask questions requiring students to explain relationships among the units of information and to form general concepts. Ask questions that require students to apply concepts and principles they have developed to new data and different situations.
Different Types of Questions Memory or Recall Questions : Eg : What is the population of India? Questions that ask for analysis or Convergent Questions : These questions can require analysis of data, application of selected tool, and synthesis of a broad knowledge base. Eg . How did the building of a coast railroad affect the economic and political development of India?
3. Questions that call for creativity or divergent questions : These questions can require lateral thinking and consideration of a variety of possibilities. Eg : How would the Indian economy be affected by a free-trade agreement with China? 4. Questions requiring evaluation : These questions require judgment or the making of choices. Eg : Is the Prime Minister doing a good job of representing Indian interests outside of India? Different Types of Questions
Teacher Role in Questioning By questioning teachers can To develop interest and motivate students to become activity involved in lessons. To evaluate students preparation and check on homework or seatwork completion. To develop critical thinking skills and inquiring attitudes. To review and summarize previous lessons.
