Maneuvering the heat wave of the Sun Disadvantage Overheating: High temperatures can cause your engine to overheat, especially if your cooling system is malfunctioning. Tire Pressure Issues: Heat causes air inside the tyres to expand which can lead to overinflation and increases the risk of a blowout. Driver Fatigue: High humidity and heat can lead to dehydration and fatigue, making it harder to concentrate and increasing the risk of an accident. Tips for drivi ng in hot humid weather Stay hydrated : Keep plenty of water in the car/ truck to help you stay hydrated . Check vehicle fluid : Regularly check your vehicle coolant and oil to avoid overheating . Monitor tyre pressure : Keep an eye on your tyre pressure and apply only the stipulated PSI for your tyres as stated in the manual .

WET WEATHER DRIVING SLOWDOWN: Wet roads can be slippery so reduce your speed to maintain better control of your vehicle. INCREASE FOLLOWING DISTANCE: Give yourself more space between your vehicle and the one in front of you to allow for a longer stopping distance. USE YOUR HEADLIGHT: Turn on your headlights to improve visibility and help other drivers see you. AVOID SUDDEN MOVEMENTS: Be gentle with your steering, braking and accelerating to avoid skidding. CHECK YOUR TYRES: Ensure your tyres have good tread and are prop erly inflated to provide better traction on wet roads.

FLOOD DRIVING AVOID FLOODED AREAS: If you see water covering the road, turn around and find an alternate route, It’s difficult to gauge the depth and current of the water. DRIVE SLOWLY & STEADILY: If you must drive through water, do so slowly and steadily, keep your car in the first gear and maintain a steady speed. STAY IN THE CENTER OF THE ROAD : Roads tend to be higher in the center, so try to drive along the middle where the water is likely to be shallower. AVOID STOPPING: Keep moving to prevent water from entering your exhaust and engine, if you stop, you risk stalling your engine while still in the water. TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN: This is a common saying for a reason “If the water looks too deep or fast moving, It is safer to turn around and find another way” .

Night Driving (1) USE YOUR HEADLIGHTS PROPERLY: Ensure your headlights are clean and properly aimed, Use beams when appropriate but dim them for oncoming traffic to avoid blinding other drivers. (2) REDUCE SPEED: Nighttime visibility is limited, so it’s crucial to drive slower than you would drive during the day, this gives you more time to react to any obstacles or sudden changes on the road. (3) STAY ALERT & AVOID FATIGUE: Fatigue can significantly impair your reaction time and decision making, Make sure you’re well rested before driving and take breaks if you feel drowsy. (4) KEEP YOUR WINDSHIELD & MIRRORS CLEAN: Dirty windshields and mirrors can cause glare and reduce visibility, Regularly clean them to ensure you have a clearer view of the road. (5) LIMIT DISTRACTIONS: Avoid using your phone or engaging in other distracting activities while driving, Stay on the road and be aware of your surroundings.

Haze weather Driving VISIBILITY: Hazy conditions like the harmattan can significantly reduce visibility, Always use your fog lights and check your brake lights to improve your visibility and make your vehicle more visible. SPEED: Reduce your speed to allow more time to react to any obstacles or sudden changes in the road conditions, driver slower helps maintain control of your vehicle. DISTANCE: Increase the distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you, This provides you with the opportunity to stop suddenly without causing any damage. WINDSHIELD & WINDOWS: Keep your windshield and windows clean, Use your wipers and defrost to prevent fogging and ensure a clearer view of the road always during your journey. STAY FOCUSED: Minimize distractions and stay alert, pay close attention to the road and other vehicles, and be prepared for unexpected situations.

Heavy Traffic Driving. WEAR SEAT BELTS: Seat belts are one of the most important features in your car, Always wear them and make your passengers wear theirs for safety. (2) PLAN YOUR ROUTE: Plan your route to avoid the most congested areas, Use GPS to find alternate routes. (3) DRIVE PROACTIVELY: If traffic is moving at high speed and aggressive drivers are present, keep to the right and move out of their way. (4) APPLY DEFENSIVE DRIVING SKILL: Be vigilant, observing traffic communication with signals, and yielding to other cars even if you technically have the right of the road. (5) STAY CALM & PATIENT: Heavy traffic can be frustrating but stay calm and patient to reduce the risk of aggressive driving. Remember that everyone is trying to get to their destinations safely.

Safety Tips for Driving if a Public Riot Breaks Out! PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE: Should you hear of unrest happening or about to occur, don’t go anywhere near those areas, stay tuned to your radio and gadgets monitoring information on the troubled spot. IF CAUGHT IN A TROUBLE PUBLIC RIOT: Calmly ensure any rioters that you’re just trying to get through peacefully. AVOID STOPPING: Motorists must try to keep on going as possible, constantly being on the lookout for any escape route, in addition, keep a careful eye on the road surface, as you don’t want to end up having a burst tyre from climbing spilt sharp object on the road. SHOULD YOU ABANDON YOUR CAR? Try staying in your car as long as possible, but if it looks like you may have to abandon your car, then don’t hesitate to do so, your life is irreplaceable, and this means you and your passengers should exit the car to safety. TELL YOUR LOVED ONES: Once you are safe don’t forget to contact your loved ones immediately, they’re no doubt anxiously awaiting any news about your whereabouts.

CONCLUSION Remember, there’s only one way to drive safely, and that is with a calm and clear mind, focused on the task at hand.
