VISION OF JNV’S
INTRODUCTION In accordance with the National Education policy (1986), Government of India started Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV). Presently there are 661 JNVs , spread in 28 States and 07 UT’s These are co-educational and fully residential schools Financed and administered by Ministry of Education , Government of India through an autonomous organization , called Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti . Admissions in JNVs are made through the Selection Test (JNVST) to class VI.

ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE AT HEAD QUARTER LEVEL The NVS functions through the Executive Committee under the Chairmanship of the Minister of Education , Government of India. The Executive Committee is responsible for the management of all affairs including allocation of funds to the NVS. It is assisted by two Sub-Committees , the Finance Committee and Academic Advisory Committee . The executive head is the Commissioner . He is assisted at the Headquarters level by Joint Commissioners , Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners .
ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE AT REGIONAL OFFICE AND JNV LEVEL The NVS has established Eight Regional Offices for the administration These offices are headed by a Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners. For each JNV, there is a Vidyalaya Advisory Committee for assistance on matters of academics, infrastructure And a Vidyalaya Management Committee for proper functioning of the school. Normally the district Collector of the concerned district is the ex-officio chairman of school level committees.
ADMISSION. Only candidates from the particular district , from where they studied class V are eligible to apply for admission. A candidate seeking admission must be within the age group of 9 to 13 years. A candidate claiming rural quota must have studied and passed Classes- III, IV and V from a Govt./recognized school . No candidate is eligible to appear in the JNV Selection Test for a second time , under any circumstances.
Reservation for Rural, SC/ST, Girls & Disabled Children At least 75% of the seats in a district from rural areas R emaining 25% seats will be filled up from the urban areas. There is a provision for reservation of seats for SC and ST candidates in proportion to their population in the district 1/3 of the seats are reserved for girl students. 3% seats for CWSN (i.e. Orthopedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired and Visually Handicapped).

Expenses allowed to be incurred from Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi For Computer Education Programme , Service of experts for promotion of sports , yoga, adventure activities etc . Expenditure on E ducational Excursions to the places of Historical importance , cultural and scientific interest. Expenditure for specialized training like Dance , self defense, Art in Education etc.

Migration and Three Language Formula, The unique feature of Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme is the Migration of students generally from Hindi Speaking to Non-Hindi Speaking districts to promote National Integration According to this Scheme, 30% of children from one JNV are migrated to another JNV at Class-IX level for one academic year. This scheme provides for implementation of the Three Language Formula. JNV Hassan is linked with JNV Seoni , Madhya Pradesh.
Organization of house system in JNV. The efficient management of a residential school depends upon the quality of the House system functioning in a school . A House consists of group of children effectively led by responsible teacher (House Masters) who acts as a parent , guide , philosopher and friend for every member of the House. A House inherently provides a family atmosphere in making the child physically fit , socially adjusted , emotionally balanced and morally upright. The objective of adopting House system in JNV’s are to Provide a smooth transition from home life to school life.
