INTRODUCTION

What is Topology • Connection of nodes in Network is done in a predefined configuration called Topology • It is a layout of communication links and switching elements • It determines the data path that will be used in any pair of nodes

TYPE OF TOPOLOGY

TYPES OF TOPOLOGIES • BUS TOPOLOGY • RING TOPOLOGY • STAR TOPOLOGY • TREE TOPOLOGY • MESH OR COMPLETELY CONNECTED TOPOLOGY • HYBRID NETWORK

BUS TOPOLOGY • Each of the computers and network devices are connected to a single central cable or backbone • Consists of a main run of cable with a terminator at each end • Popular on LANs because they are inexpensive and easy to install

Ring Topology • Cable forms closed ring or loop, with all computers and devices arranged along ring. • Data travels from device to device around entire ring , in one direction. • Primarily is used for LANs , but also is used in WANs .

Star Topology • All devices connect to a central device, called hub . • All data transfer r ed from one computer to another passes through hub . • Star topology is the most popular topology to connect computer and devices

Tree Topology • The nodes are connected to each other in such a way that forms a tree like Structure . • To form a tree network, multiple star topologies are combined together. • This type of network has combined features of bus and star topology

Mesh Topology • Each computer are connected with each other by separate cable. • Create point to point connection to every device on network . • If one cable fail data always has alternative path to get to its destination. • On a large scale, you canconnect multiple LANs using mesh topology with leasedline .
