POLLUTION DEFINE POLLUTION :- Pollution is the introduction of harmful material into the environment . These harmful materials are called pollutants. Pollutants can be natural such as volcanic ash . They can also be created by human activity such as trash or runoff produced by factories. Pollutants damage the quality of Air, Water, and Land.

Types Of Pollution There are FOUR main pollution Air Pollution Water Pollution Land Pollution Noise Pollution

AIR POLLUTION Air pollution is contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the atmosphere . Household combustion devices, motor vehicles, industrial facilities and forest fires are common sources of air pollution.

Causes of Air Pollution Air pollution is caused by solid and liquid particles and certain gases that are suspended in the air . These particles and gases can come from car and track exhaust, factories, dust, pollen, mold spores, volcanoes and wildfires. The solid and liquid particles suspended in our air are called aerosols.

Effects of Air Pollution Long-term health effects from air pollution include heart disease, lung cancer, and respiratory disease such as emphysema . Air pollution can also cause long-term damage to peoples nerves, brain, kidneys, liver, and other organs. Air pollution can harm health of animals and plants also.

HOW To Control Air Pollution Drive your car less. Don’t burn your garbage. Plant and care for trees. Switch to electric or hand- powered lawn equipment. Keep your car in good repair. ,ETC

WATER POLLUTION Water pollution occurs when harmful substances-often chemicals or microorganisms-contaminate a stream, river, lake, ocean, or other body of water , degrading water quality and rendering it toxic to humans or the environment

Causes Of Water Pollution The main water pollutants include bacteria, viruses, parasites, fertilisers , pesticides, pharmaceutical products, nitrates, phosphates, plastics, faecal waste and even radioactive substances . These substances do not always changes the colour of the water, meaning that they are often invisible pollutants.

Effects Of Water Pollution Water pollution damages the plnts and aquatic animals present in the river by reducing the oxygen content from the water . Polluted water washes the essential nutrients which plants need out of the soil and also leaves large amount of aluminium in the soil, which can be harmful to plants.

How To Control Water Pollution Pick up litter and throw it away in a garbage can. Blow or sweep fertilizer back onto the grass if it gets onto paved area. Mulch or compost grass or yard waste. ,ETC

LAND POLLUTION Land pollution refers to the deterioration of the earths land surfaces at and below ground level . It is caused by the accumulation of solid and liquid waste materials that contaminate groundwater and soil.

Causes of Land Pollution Land pollution occurs when trash, compost, and other toxins are dumped on the land, contaminating or polluting it. Land pollution is caused by human activities such as littering and waste washed ashore from boats, oil rings, and sewage treatment plants.

Effects of Land Pollution Polluted soil, which leads to a loss of fertile land for agriculture and a reduction in the availability of food . Climate change which causes an onslaught of disastrous problems, including flash floods and irregular rainfalls. The endangerment and extinction of species in wildlife

How To Control Land Pollution Buy products that have little packaging. Buy biodegradable products Reduce, reuse, recycle Don’t use pesticides if you can. , ETC

NOISE POLLUTION Noise pollution is a type of pollution that is caused due to loud, unpleasant noises . The adverse effects of noise pollution are not visible, just like the effects of water and air pollution, but it is equally threatening to the environment. Noise pollution is hazardous to our health.

Causes of Noise Pollution Sound is produced by vibrating objects and reaches the listeners ears as waves in the air or other media . When an objects vibrates, it causes slight changes in air pressure. These air pressure changes travel as waves through the air and produce sound.

Effects of Noise Pollution Noise pollution adversely affects the lives of millions of people. Studies have shown that there are direct link between noise and health. Problems related to noise include stress related illnesses, high blood pressure, speech interference, hearing loss, sleep disruption and lost productivity.

How Control Noise Pollution Turn off appliances at home and offices. Lower the volume. Use earplugs. Stay away from noisy area. Shut the door when using noisy machines., ETC
