BIOGRAPHY OF Emile Durkheim’s DONE BY AKHIL,TALMIZ

about Durkheim’s life French sociologist Émile Durkheim (1858–1917) made sociology more widely accepted as a legitimate academic discipline. Born in Épinal , France, he attended a prestigious French institution to study philosophy. Durkheim's research was on the maintenance and operation of societies. He is well-known for his research on the effects of social relationships caused by the division of labor, the importance of religion in society, and the ways in which social factors shape conduct, such as in his study on suicide. The concepts of Durkheim still has an impact on sociology till today. He passed away in Paris in 1917.

What was Emile Durkheim’s goal? Throughout his career, Durkheim was concerned primarily with three goals. First, to establish sociology as a new academic discipline . Second, to analyse how societies could maintain their integrity and coherence in the modern era, when things such as shared religious and ethnic background could no longer be assumed . Lastly, Durkheim was concerned with the practical implications of scientific knowledge.[16] The importance of social integration is expressed throughout Durkheim's work

Emile Durkheim’s Childhood and education Durkheim, born into a modest Jewish family, believed he would become a rabbi. However, his father's death at 20 made him a burden. Durkheim became disciplined and determined to pursue spiritual progress. He excelled at Lycée Louis le Grand and was a strong candidate for the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. Durkheim met Jean Jaurès , a gifted young man interested in philosophy and moral reform. Jaurès won entrance to the École Normale in 1878, and Durkheim did the same. Durkheim's religious faith disappeared, and his thought became secular but strongly oriented towards moral reform. He looked to social science and educational reform to avoid social disconnectedness or "anomie," where norms for conduct were absent, weak, or conflicting.
