Proximity-the nearness of event
to the readers.

Conflict-disagreement between
man and fellowmen, man and
nature or man and himself.
Human Interest-eventswhich
are appealing to the emotion.

6. Numbers and Statistics-
results of sweepstakes, raffle
draws, vital statistics of
celebrities and peso-dollar
equivalent
Romance and adventure-
love and adventure stories
especially among celebrities .

7. Development-any progress like
putting up of schools, buildings,
and bridges.
Calamity-stories of casualties
like earthquake, typhoons and
other disasters.
Animals-stories about animals
especially those unusual ones.

11. BASIC STRUCTURE OF
NEWS

12. Straight News.
The data are presented in direct fashion using
summary lead.
Summary lead.The summary lead answers the
five Ws and one H (What, Who, Where, When,
Why and How).
The story is presented using the inverted pyramid
form where the most important data are in the
first and second paragraph

13. News Feature. The data are presented
indirectly through the use of the novelty lead.
Novelty lead.It attracts the reader’s attention, arouse his
curiosity and sustain his interest.
(Narrative, Descriptive, Anecdote, Quotation,
Question, One-Word , etc.)

18. 1. Use simple sentence
2. Do not overload the beginning
paragraph with the answers of the Five
W and one H. The second paragraph is a
secondary lead too.
3. Do not use an important or unusual
word twice to the same sentences.

19. 4. Avoid the use of articles such as a,
an , and in the beginning of your lead.
5. A paragraph should not exceed
three sentences or 75 words. For easy
reading, average number of words
per sentence should be 15 to 20.

20. 6. Important facts should be placed
at the beginning of the paragraph.
7. Arrange paragraphs in the
descending order of importance.
8. Avoid repetition of clauses,
phrases and other similar words at
the beginning of each paragraph
