Management is a general term which is described in various ways with significantly different meaning also there is no globally accepted definition in particular management is commonly termed as functioning with and through the personnel individually or in group to manage resources to the maximum to achieve the objective .. 14 principles according to Henry fayol 1 .Division of work : in any organization administration or manager cannot perform all the activities to achieve its objective so there should be division of work according to managerial and non managerial or according to job which grouped according to departments Example : department of nursing , department of pharmacy, department of medicine Principles of nursing management

If the person has to perform job assignment effectively according to their own qualification and experience or convention there should be delegation of authority and responsibility needed which in turn helps to get accountability 03 . Discipline : For the smooth running of administration to achieve objectives there should be proper observance of the rules regulations norms manners code of ethics and respect this requires to be enforced within the organization by the managers 02 .Authority and responsibilty :

04. Unity of command : In any organization the subordinates should be supervised by single superior to whom he/she should be accountable 05. Unity of direction : In any organization there should be one supervisor to give direction to his her subordinates 06. Subordination : S ubordination interest to organization interest this implies that narrow selfish interest should be overcome or should turn to common and broad interest of the organization for its welfare

07 .Remuneration of personnel : There should be fair policy for payment to the personnel justifying the workload job hazards efficiency and quality of performance 08 .Centralization : There should be a some amount of greater and larger resting with top level managers 09 . Scalar chain of command : W hich implies that there is chain or link of directional instructions from the top level to the lowest rank of organizational members 10.O rder : In an administration there should be proper systematic arrangement of staff materials supplies and equipment according to requirement of specific job departments

11. Equity : In administration there should be fair and impartial treatment to all workers irrespective of their job 12. Stability of tenure of personnel : Organization should make proper efforts to ensure stability and continuity in the tenure of personnel which gives security and promotes productions 13. Initiative : A dministration should always be encouraging initiative from each employee by allowing him freedom to do his/her best 14. Esprit de corps : I t refers to sense of belonging this fosters the team spirit i e: The spirit of working together to achieve objectives effectively

Management techniques are systematic procedures of investigating, planning, controlling and supervising which can be applied to the management problem There are 8 techniques nursing management 1. Detection :To find out or discover something, what is happening or what is wrong? The techniques which include detection are , input-output analysis, attitude survey, production of study, 2. Evaluation : To measure or estimate the value of an item. This technique which includes in evaluations are, job evaluation, work measurement ,work estimation Techniques of Nursing Management

03. Improvements :To improve performance. The techniques used here are management by objectives ,value analysis 04.Optimisation :To optimize performance. The techniques used here are , linear programming ,operation research etc 05.Specification : To specify a desired value of situation or action. The techniques will be used here are layout planning for offices and plants etc.

06.Control : The techniques used here are cost control, credit control, labour control, budget control, inventory control. 07.Communication : To communicate information the techniques used here are visual aids, report writing ,management information 08.Demonstration : To demonstrate something the techniques used here are programmed learning, job instruction, management development and training .

The state of nursing that today had its beginning in madras around the second half of 19 th century. This started with training for women for improving nursing in military hospitals. 01. Late nineteenth century

The trend set in the late 19 th century found its effect in the period by the start of this century we find establishment of nursing training centers 1905: The association of nursing of superintend was formed. 1908: The association of nursing of superintends broadened its scope and the trained nurses and association of india (TNAI) was found this year 02.Beginning of twentieth century

1926: the first nurses registration act was enacted madras presidency 1934: the Bengal nurses act enacted for the nurses midwives and health visitors of undivided Bengal 1936: the mid –india board of education was formed in 1934 and was affiliated to Christian nurses league in 1936 1939: by this all time all the provinces in india except Assam had nursing councils 02.The early 20 th century to 1946

1920-1940: it will be interest for you to know that during 1920 to 1940 nursing was lapping forward In the western countries nurses in india to did not want to lag behind 1940-1946: the second world war ravaged the world during this period for obvious reasons expansions of military and civil hospitals took place during the war years . 1943:commissioned rank was given to the Indian military nursing systems

1941-46:During the period the state nursing services with standardized pay scales and terms of services were established in madras in UP (1944) 1946:The university nursing programme leading to bachelors degree in nursing was launches at the college of nursing, Delhi and Christian medical college Vellore was under Delhi and madras university respectively 1947: We earned our independence on august 15 th in 1947 1949: The first meetings of Indian nursing council was held

1950: This also replaced the various junior grade courses in nursing and midwifery and standardized courses, shorter simpler like senior nursing and senior midwifery courses were introduced 1953: The registering nurses trained in countries where no reciprocal registration existed and maintained indian nurses register 1963: A WHO assisted technical project was undertaken at the INC to revise general nursing midwifery 1965: A WHO publication on guide for schools of nursing in india came out this year

When developing a mission statement it should be seen that the following questions are answered What do we do today ? For whom do we do it ? What is the benefit ?

These are the statements that represents future goals of the organization and institutions They create a focal point for strategic planning and are time bound with most vision statements projected for a period of 5 to 10 years Communicate both purpose and value of the organization Meaning of vision statements

When developing a vision statements it should be seen that the following questions are answered. What do we want to do going forward? When do we want to do it? How do we want to do it ?
