Navigating the Future: Ethical AI Leadership in
Open Education and Inclusive OER Learning
Our short presentation examines ethical leadershipas a transformative
force in open education. We'll explore how principles of, inclusion,
equity and accessibilitycan guide the development and governance of
OER and AIGC, promoting lifelong learning and educational equity
globally, while acknowledging potential resistance to the equitable
integration of AIin education.
During our workshop, we’ll collectively explore the powerful synergy
between ethical leadership, AI, and inclusivity, revealing how their
intersection can shape a more equitable and innovative future for
both education and industry.

Recommendation
Open Educational Resources
(OER) are learning, teaching and
research materials in any format
and medium that reside in the
public domain or are under
copyright that have been released
under an open license, that permit
no-cost access, re-use, re-
purpose, adaptation and
redistribution by others.

Combining OERs and AI creates a powerful ecosystem for continuous learning
which enables leaders to:
•Encourage the creation and use of OERs on AI literacy and ethics and keep
pace with new ideas
•Integrate AI tools into learning platforms to customise content and address
biases
•Foster a culture of openness and appreciation for diverse viewpoints in AI
development
•Explore the further potential of combining OERs and AI to create engaging
and personalised learning experiences

The Challenges Ahead
Intersection
How will you imagine
the future and
intersections of
Leadership,
Openness, AI, and
Ethics?
The critical challenge to these
drivers is a mindset shift among
leadersand their teams.
Traditional leadershipmodels,
while valuable, may not be fully
equipped to handle the
integration of OER and AIGC
effectively for a truly inclusive
and equitable learning
environment.
Whereas AIis valuable in
promoting OER, cultural
recognition and acceptance, and
appreciation for diversity and
social justice, there are concerns
around AI biases and hallucination
alongside difficulties with AI
literacy across demographics
leading to fears and avoidance of
use.
Whilst OER can have a
transformative impact on
inclusion, access, diversity and
lifelong learning, the next phase
of development hinges upon
incorporating ethical leadership
principles There are other
ethical issues regarding
academic teaching and
authorship for publications.
Promoting opennessin
education requires a delicate
balancing act where leaders
must ensure quality control and
copyright issues.
Openness depends on building
trust and fostering a culture
that is open to critique and
effective information
management.

AI creates adaptive learning platforms and intelligent tutoring systems
responding to individual needs, adjusting content, feedback and engagement
AI streamlines tasks e.g. grading, scheduling, and data management freeing
up time allowing educators to focus on teaching and mentoring students
AI analyses large databases, assists informed decisions about
curriculum design and student support and ‘at risk’ challenges
AI promotes inclusive education through tailored learning
experiences for diverse students including those with disabilities
