OPERATION GREEN • Tweak the temperature: In fall and winter, set the thermostat to 68 degrees instead of 72. ( ASPE: $25) During warmer months, set the temperature at 74 instead of 68. (ASPE: $41) • Kill the lights: Replace traditional bulbs with compact fluorescent ones, which last 10 times as long and use 75% less energy. (ASPE: $125) • Set a paper reduction policy: Reduce paper use in the office by 50% (ASPE:$166) This cuts an hour a day of printing, filing and otherwise managing paperwork. (ASPE: $300) • Recycle old cell phones: Send old cell phones and other electronic devices to a recycling service like CorporateRenew [which sends a check in return]. (ASPE: $70) • Schedule and energy audit: Utility companies and private contractors will walk through your facility, looking for ways to save on energy use, office equipment and work processes. OPERATION GREEN Louisiana provides a 50% tax credit for the purchase and installation of solar energy systems purchased and installed on or after January 1, 2008. There is no cap on the number of systems that can be installed on a home or apartment building, so long as the total production of the systems does not exceed the building’s electricity consumption. There are multiple federal tax incentives that may apply to your business; however, the Business Energy Investment Tax Credit is generally applicable to most businesses while providing the largest impact to your bottom line. The credit is equal to 30% of expenditures, with no maximum credit. Eligible solar energy property includes equipment that uses solar energy to generate electricity, to heat or cool (or provide hot water for use in) a structure, or to provide solar process heat.
