1. INTRODUCTION
Optical fibers are the latest and newest type of guided transmission
medium for virtually all forms of digital and data communications
applications.
Electromagnetic waves are guided through a media composed of
transparent material without using electrical current flow.
The electromagnetic light waves are propagated through the media
as radio signals propagate through Earth’s atmosphere.

2. INTRODUCTION
An optical communication system is a type of electronic
communication that uses light as the carrier of information.
It uses glass or plastic fiber cables to contain the light waves and
guide them in a manner similar to the electromagnetic waves guided
through a metallic transmission medium.
Optical fiber cables can carry much more information than metallic
transmission media.
