DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACEUTICL SCIENCES, MDU ROHTAK HERBAL DRUG TECHNOLOGY ASSIGNMENT Organic farming (session: 2022) Presented by Amit Roll no.1417 Batch A
ORGANIC FARMING Organic farming is an agricultural system that uses fertilizers of organic origin such as compost manure green manure and bone meal and places emphasis on techniques such as Crop rotation and companion planting. It originated early in the 20th Century in reaction to rapidly changing farming It is known as ecological farming or biological farming. Organic Standards are designed to allow the use of naturally occuring substances while prohibiting or Strictly limiting synthetic substances. For instance naturally occuring pesticides such as pyrethrin are permitted while synthetic fertilizers and pesticides are generally prohibited. Biodynamic farming use specific fermented herbal preparations as compost additives and field, sprays in addition to organic farming. Organic farming consists of several principles and practices. which are given by the standards of International Federation of organic Agriculture movements (IFOAM) as the principle of health, ecology, fairness and care. organic farming does not involve any chemicals right from seed production and even after post harvesting, handling and Storage Product obtained is free from chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides.
Goals of Organic Farming High level of productivity. Compatability of cultivation with the natural cycle, of the production system Maintaining and increasing the long-term fertility and biological activity of the soil Maintaining and increasing the natural diversity and agro- biodiversity. Maximum use of renewable resources. Creating a harmonic balance between crop and animal husbandry. Creating such conditions for the animals that correspond to their natural behaviour Protecting and learning indigenous knowledge a traditional managnant systems.
Steps in Organic Farming Conversion of land from conventional management organic management management of the entire surrounding system ensure biodiversity and sustainability of the system Crop production by using alternative sources of nutrients Management of weeds and pests by better management practices, physical and cultural means and biological control system maintenance of livestock along with organic, concept and make them an integral part of the entire system.
Principles of Organic Farming 1. Principle of health - Organic farming should sustain. and enhance the health of soil plant, animal, human and planet as a whole. Organic farming, whether in farming, processing, distribution or consumption , sustain and enhances the health of ecosystem and organisms ranging from the smallest in the soil to human beings 2. Principle of Ecology: oraganic farming should be bared on living ecological systems and Cycles, should work with them and sustain them. Production should be based on ecological processes and recycling. Organic management should be adapted to local Conditions, ecological, culture and scale. 3. Principle of Fairness - Organic farming should be based on relationships that ensure fairness with regard to common environment and life opportunities. This principle states that thase involved in organic farming should conduct human relationship to ensure fairness at all levels and to all farmers, workers, processors, distributors, traders and consumers. Natural and enviornment resources used for production.... and Consumption should be managed such that it is socially and ecologically fair and frusted for future generations. 4. Principle of care: This principle states that precaution and responsibility are the key concerns in management, development and technology choices in organic articulations. organic farming should be managed in a cautionary and responsible way to protect the health and well being of current and future generating and the environment.
ORGANIC FARMING Advantages Economical . In organic farming, ho expensive fertilizers, pesticides or seeds an required for the plantation of crops. Therefore there is no extra expense. Good return on investment : with the usage of Cheaper and local inputs a farmer can make a good return on Investment high demand . There is huge demand for organic products in India and across the globe, which generates more income through. Nutritional- As compared to chemical and fertilizers utilized products, organic products are meal nutritional, tasty and good for the health Disadvantages In competent - The major issue of organic faming in the lack of inadequate infrastructure and marketing of the product Less production. The product obtained through organic farming are less in the initial" years as compared to that in chemical products. So farmers find it difficult to accommodate large-scale production. Shorter Shelf life - Organic products have more flaws and a shorter shelf life than that of chemical products. Limited Production - Off-season Crops are limited and have fewer options in organic farming.
Types of organic farming Pump Organic Farming - In this process of farming, all fertilizers and pesticides are obtained from natural sources such as bone meal or blood meal. Integrated Organic Family - It includes the integration of pest management and nutrients management to achieve ecological requirements and demands.
Organic Farming Practices Crop rotations This involves planting different crop species on the same field, but at different times and locations. Rotating Crop improves soil structure. Cover Cropping. In this practice, a cover crops to provide a covers for the sole. This Crop can be annual, biennial, or herbaceous plants grown in a pure or mixed Stand throughout the year Green Manures It a cover crop that is filled into the soil while still green. It adds organic matter and nutrients to the Ball Green manure also suppresses weeds "and soil-borne diseases. Animal manure - manure can be applied to field in either a row of Composted form Raw manure provides num and organic matter to the soil, and encourages biological processes in the soil Weed Management - This involves Crop and removing weeds before sec and reproduction, and not allowing on the form.
