Organization and Management Week 1

Understanding the Nature and Concepts of Management Unit 1

Most Essential Learning Competency: Explain the meaning, functions, types and theories of management

Storytelling Activity No. 1

Storytelling Directions: T he teacher will choose the characters of the story from the class and they will act on-the-spot.

Characters: EVERYBODY , SOMEBODY , ANYBODY , and NOBODY

There was an important job to be done, and EVERYBODY was sure that SOMEBODY would do it . ANYBODY could have done it, but NOBODY did it. SOMEBODY got angry about that because it was EVERYBODY’S job. EVERYBODY thought that ANYBODY could do it, but NOBODY realize that EVERYBODY wouldn’t do it. It ended up that EVERYBODY blamed SOMEBODY when NOBODY did what ANYBODY could have done.

Questions to ponder: What does the story try to tell us? What are the points that we have to take note? What have you noticed about the character of each name mentioned? What do you think could have happened had all of them did their job? Do you think this scenario is happening in school? at home? in any organization?

Henri F ayol (1841-1925) Focuses on the leaders, managers or the chief executives of the organization and works downward to its subordinates. Believes that managers must learn how to analyze deviations and make necessary adjustments to come up with a much feasible process.

Frederick Taylor (1856-1915) “Father of Scientific Management” Taylorism “an art of knowing what to do, when to do and see that it is done in the best and cheapest way”
