Objectives: After this presentation, you are expected to: Discuss the types and formats of outlining; Explain the basic principles in outlining; and Outline the given reading text.

Unlocking of Difficulties Sentence – Group of words that has a subject and predicate. Phrases - Group of words that has no subject and predicate. Parallel – lying or moving in the same direction but always have the same distance apart. Decimal – It is one of the types of numbers, which has a whole number and fractional part separated by a decimal point. Outlining - Summarizing the essential feature of a text in hierarchical or logical order.

Outlining A written plan that serves as a skeleton for paragraphs you write. A summary that gives the essential information that will be included in a paper, book, etc.

BENEFIT OF OUTLINING It gives an overview of the topic, and it enables us to see how various subtopics relate to one another. Recording an information in our own words that helps us test our understanding of what we read. It is an effective way to record needed information from reference books you do not own.

TYPES OF OUTLINING Reading Outline is what you make when you study a paper. 2. Writing outline is what you make when you write an essay.

FORMATS IN OUTLINING Decimal Outline Alphanumerical Outline

Decimal Outline Is a system of decimal notation that clearly shows how every level of the outline relates to the larger whole. Ideas are organized through numbers and decimals.

Alphanumeric Outline Uses letters and numbers to organize ideas. Is commonly used due to convenience and easy recognition of section.

Types of Formal Outline Topic Outline Sentence Outline

Topic Outline It summarizes the main topics and sub-topics in words or phrases.

Sentence Outline It uses sentences for each topic and sub-topic for it is more informative than the topic sentence.
