Air conditioner is a system that is used to cool down a space by removing heat from the space and moving it to some outside area.   It is the process of removing  heat from an enclosed space to achieve a more comfortable interior temperature and in some cases also strictly controlling the  humidity of internal air.   Introduction

Air conditioners are devices that regulate the temperature, humidity, and quality of air in a space. They work by removing heat and humidity from the air inside a space and transferring it outside. An air conditioner cools your home with a cold indoor coil called the evaporator. The condenser, a hot outdoor coil, releases the collected heat outside. The evaporator and condenser coils are serpentine tubing surrounded by aluminum fins. What is air conditioner?

Frequency: The frequency of alternating c urrent in India is 50 Hz. This simply means that the magnetic field around the armature in the a c-generators in India rotates 50 times per second. Voltage: A low voltage (24 volts A/C) signal is switched on by the thermostat sending 24 volts to the condensing unit.

Ancient times:  Ancient Egyptians and people in Hamoukar , Syria used passive air conditioning techniques, such as double-walled living quarters with gaps between the walls.  History of air conditioner 1902:   Willis carrier invented the first modern air conditioning system for a brooklyn printing company to control humidity and cool the air.  1904:  People began experiencing the comfort of air conditioning.  1906:  The term "air conditioning" was coined.

1998–2000:  Advanced refrigerants were developed.  2006:  The Energy department set new efficiency standards.  1922:  Carrier invented the centrifugal chiller to improve the performance and reduce the cost of air conditioners.  1928:  Chlorofluorocarbon refrigerants were created.  1929:  Room cooling systems became available.

Carrier's system sent air through coils filled with cold water, cooling the air while simultaneously removing moisture to control room humidity. Early Days 1902: Different methods had been used for conditioning air throughout the centuries, but perhaps most well known as the air conditioner inventor was Willis Carrier. He built the first electrical ac unit in 1902, which signaled the beginning of air conditioning as we know it today.

Types of Air-Conditioners Window air-conditioning system Split air-conditioning system Centralised air-conditioning system 4) Package air-conditioning system

Window air conditioners are one of the most commonly used and cheapest type of air conditioners. Window air-conditioner units are reliable and simple-to-install solution to keep a room cool while avoiding the costly construction of a central air system. Window air-conditioning system

Split air-conditioning system The outdoor unit, fitted outside the room, houses components like the compressor, condenser The indoor unit comprises the evaporator or coil and the cooling fan,it can be used to cool one or two rooms.

Centralised air-conditioning system The central air conditioning plants or the systems are used when large buildings, hotels, theaters, airports, shopping malls etc. are to be air conditioned completely. • The window and split air conditioners are used for single rooms or small office spaces.

Package air-conditioning system The window and split air conditioners are usually used for the small air conditioning capacities up to 5 tons and the cooling loads extend beyond 20 tons. The packaged air conditioners are available in the fixed rated capacities of 3,5, 7, 10 and 15 tons, used in places like restaurants, telephone exchanges, homes, small halls, etc.

New invented technology for Air-Conditioning System District Cooling System Chilled Beam System

District Cooling System District Cooling Systems (DCS) is a system which distribute chilled water or other media, usually provided from a dedicated cooling plant, to multiple buildings for air conditioning or other uses. The Objectives : To centralized production of chilled water by using district cooling plant. The generated chilled water will then be channeled to various building blocks thru pre- insulated seamless underground pipes.

Advantages 1. Improve energy efficiency 2. Protect environment 3. Save spaces 4. Improve urban view 5. Reduce manpower for operation and maintenance

District Cooling Syst.. How the system work: DC means the centralized production and distribution of cooling energy. Chilled water is delivered via an underground insulated pipeline to office ,residential buildings to cool the indoor air of the buildings within a district. The output of one cooling plant is enough to meet the cooling-energy demand of dozens of buildings. DC can be run on electricity or natural gas, and can use water or seawater.

2. Why it is environmental friendly : District cooling helps the environment by increasing energy efficiency and reducing environmental emissions including air pollution, the greenhouse gas (GHG) carbon dioxide (CO2) and ozone-destroying refrigerants. District cooling can reduce annual CO2emissions by about 1 ton for every ton of district cooling refrigeration demand served

Chilled Beam System It is a type of convection HVAC system designed to heat or cooled high rise building such as commercial building. It's primarily gives off its cooling effect through convection by using water to remove heat from a room. Pipes of water passed through the beam suspended short distance from the ceiling of a room. As the beam chills the air around it, the air becomes denser and falls to the floor.

Chilled Beam System diagram

Advantages Disadvantages Simple to design and control Smaller ductwork Less mechanical space Less maintenance Higher construction cost Many engineers aren't familiar with this technology Dew point concerns, building must have a good control of humidity to prevent condensation on chilled beam surface.

Definition - A cycle that shows how the refrigerant vapor and discharged by the compressor to the condenser.

Compressor -Inhaling the refrigerant from the suction channel. -Compressing to the discharge channel. Condensor -Remove heat from condensor . -Refrigerant vapour turn to liquid. Evaporator -Liquid turns to vapour . -Cold air flows out room. Expansion Valve -Low the temperature and pressure of liquid. -Control the flow rate into the evaporator. Cold refrigerant vapor and low pressure Hot refrigerant vapor and high pressure Hot refrigerant vapor and high pressure Cold refrigerant vapor and low pressure

Most air conditioning systems perform the following functions: Provide the cooling and heating energy required. Condition the supply air, that is, heat or cool, humidify or dehumidify, clean and purify, and attenuate any objectionable noise produced by the HVAC&R equipment. Control and maintain the indoor environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, cleanliness, air movement, sound level, and pressure differential between the conditioned space and surroundings within pre-determined limits Function of Air Conditioner:

What maintenance do I need to do on my air conditioner? Regular upkeep and maintenance of your air conditioner is necessary to keep it running efficiently and effectively. Make sure to change or clean the air filter periodically, and keep bushes and tall grass or grass clippings out of the outdoor unit. It is also important to schedule annual maintenance visits with a qualified technician who can check the system more thoroughly and make any necessary adjustments.

What are the benefits of using an air conditioner? Air conditioners provide many benefits including improved indoor air quality and better sleep in hot summer months. They help reduce allergens like dust particles, pet hair/dander, mold spores and other airborne contaminants that can aggravate asthma or trigger allergies. Additionally, the right air conditioner can help you save money on energy bills by cooling your home more efficiently and keeping temperatures consistent throughout the day.
