About This Presentation

**Description of Microorganisms:**

Microorganisms, also called microbes, are tiny living organisms that can only be seen under a microscope. They include bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and algae. These organisms are found everywhere — in the air, water, soil, and even inside the human body.

MICROORGANISMS A Micro-organism, or Microbe, is a very tiny living thing that can only be seen with a microscope. Some Microbes live alone as single ells, while others form groups or colonies. A Cluster of Escherichia coli bacteria magnified 10,000 times .

Antonie Philips Van Leeuwenhoek People long ago guessed that invisible life might exist, but it wasn’t proven until the 1600s when Anton Van Leeuwenhoek used a microscope to see them for the first time. Born : 24 th Oct, 1632 Died : 26 th Aug, 1723 Antonie Philips Van Leeuwenhoek was a Scientist from the Netherlands during a time when art, science and technology were growing quickly. He taught himself science and is known as the “ Father of Microbiology”

Louis Pasteur Louis Pasteur was a famous French scientist who studied tiny living things called microbes. He discovered how vaccines work, how microbes cause fermentation (like in making yogurt and wine), and how to stop germs from spoiling food by heating it — a process now called **pasteurization**, named after him. In the 1800s , Lois Pasteur discovered that these tiny organisms make food spoil and proved that they don’t appear by themselves (he disproved “spontaneous generation”). Born : 27 th Dec, 1822 Died : 28 th Sep, 1895

Robert koch Robert Koch was a German doctor and scientist who studied germs. He discovered the microbes that cause dangerous diseases like tuberculosis, cholera, and anthrax. Because of his important discoveries, he is known as one of the main founders of modern bacteriology — the science that studies bacteria.

Microorganisms are very tiny living things that exist in many different forms. They include most one-celled (unicellular) organisms found in all three major groups of life: Archaea , Bacteria , and Eukaryota . The first two groups, Archea and Bacteria , are made up only of Miroorganisms. The third group, Eukaryota , includes both large, multicellular organisms (like animals and plants) and many single-celled ones, such as protists and protozoa . Some protists are similar to animals, while others are more like plants. There are also small multicellular creatures, such as Miro-animals , tiny Fungi and Microscopic Algae that can only be seen under a microscope.

Microorganisms live almost everywhere on Earth — from the C old poles to the Hot equator , in Deserts , Deep oceans , Volcanoes , and even inside Rocks . Some microbes can survive in very hot or freezing temperatures others live under high pressure in the deep sea , and a few, like “ Deinococcus radiodurans” can even survive strong radiation . They also live inside and on all living things, including humans, animals, and plants — this community of microbes is called the “ Microbiota” . Scientists have found signs of microorganisms in R ocks that are 3.45 billion years old in Australia — the oldest known evidence of life on Earth.

Microbes are very important in many parts of our lives. They help us in several ways. FOOD: Microbes are used to make foods like Yogurt , Chesse , Bread and Pickles through “Fermentation” . ENVIORNMENT: They help Clean sewage produce Fuels and useful Chemicals . SCIENCE: Scientists use microbes to study how living things work because they are simple and easy to grow.

SOIL: Microbes keep soil Healthy and Fertile , helping plants grow. HUMAN BODY: Many Mirobes live in our bodies, especially in our Gut (Stomach and Intestines) , and help with Digestion and keeping us healthy . However, not all microbes are good . Some cause Infectious diseases , so we use Hygiene and Cleaning to protect ourselves from harmful ones. THANK YOU !
