Filling by Gravitation: Filling by gravity is used for filling thin liquids like milk into glass bottles/plastic bottles. This system is suitable for filling milk in glass bottles.
VACUUM FILLING OF BOTTLES It is an example of filling by gravity type The milk is contained in a circular filler bowl under vacuum The filler valve is mounted in the bottom of bowl with vacuum pipe The empty bottles are lifted by a pedestal and the rim of the neck of the bottle presse d against the filler valve rubber. Then an annular orifice is formed in the valve through which milk enters into the bottle.
Over Wrapping Machines: Over wrapping the product with a film or foil is commonly employed for cheese and butter. Cup Filling Machines: Ice Cream, yoghurt, Shrikand , Dahi , Lassi etc are some of the products packed in cups. Plastic cups either preformed, from a film in the machine itself or ready made cups when used are placed in the stacker of the machine. Automatic packaging machines which work aseptically are in use for the production of long life products.
Packaging in cans and tubes: Cans made of tin plate are used for sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, canned Rasogolla and canned gulabjamuns . The cans open at the back are loaded into the machine which fills the product in to the cans. Then the lids are applied and closed by either simple or double seaming depending on the product.
Form Fill and Sealing Machine: Form fill sealing machine (FFS) is a type of automated assembly-line product packaging system, commonly used in the packaging of milk, buttermilk, ghee etc.. The machine constructs plastic bags out of a flat roll of plastic film, while simultaneously filling the bags with product and sealing the filled bags.
Sequence of operation: 1. Forming of tube of packing material from film in rolled state 2. Simultaneous operation of filling and sealing 3. Movement of film to form next package 4. Simultaneous separation of filled and sealed packet while filling of next packet
Working: Film roll is loaded at the backside of the filling machine on a sliding platform. The film edge is passed over end of roll contact lever, dancer roller, UV tube and brought to the front side over to forming plates The function of UV tube is to sterilize the film.
The forming plates roll the flat film in to a tube. Within the tube is the fluid filling pipe enveloped. The tube then passes over to vertical seal jaws that are engaged and disengaged with the help of an air operated piston, or in some machines by mechanical means.
Lower down the film tube, there is a pair of nip rollers giving a holding and pulling down action, when the jaws are disengaged, making the film to move to seal the next portion of vertical overlap.Further lower down the film tube is engaged by horizontal jaws, at a sufficiently below the lower edge of fluid filling pipe.
Further lower down the film tube is engaged by horizontal jaws, at a sufficiently below the lower edge of fluid filling pipe. This arrangement allows the formation of lower seal of the packet while the fluid is being filled to a known quantity.
Aseptic packaging Aseptic processing and packaging denotes the filling commercially sterilized and cooled product into pre-sterilized containers under aseptic conditions and sealing in an atmosphere free of micro-organisms.
Heating the product to sterilization temperatures (140-150°C) for zero to few seconds. Maintaining sterility of the products till they are cooled and packed Filling into sterile containers and sealing asceptically
