WHEN DO WE USE THE PAST CONTINUOUS?
We were playing in the sand when we went to the beach.
IT IS USED TO TALK ABOUT THE EVENTS OR SITUATIONS AROUND A SPECIFIC TIME IN PAST.
When my friends and I went to the beach, we did a lot of
activities. Joseph was singing and were singing along with
him , Stephanie was eating some watermelon and Claudia
was drinking some pop and of course we were having a
wonderful time.
SHE WAS VISITING RIO DE JANEIRO AND
GUATEMALA.
THEY STARTED DOING IT THEY FINISHED DOING IT
THIS TIME LAST YEAR, I WAS VISITING RIO DE JANEIRO AND
GUATEMALA.
She was doing it at a certain time. The action or situation started before
that time, and had not finished.
THE PHONE RANG
THEY WERE LEAVING
THEY WERE LEAVING HOME TO THE AIRPORT WHEN
THE PHONE RANG.
Past action in progress (they were leaving) interrupted by another action
(the phone rang)
