Domestic Air Purifier Improving Indoor Air Quality
Introduction Indoor air pollution poses significant health risks, contributing to respiratory diseases, allergies, and other health issues. The need for effective air purification solutions has become increasingly important, especially in urban areas with high pollution levels. HEPA filters are widely recognized for their ability to capture 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, making them an ideal choice for air purification systems. This report details the development of a simple air purifier incorporating a HEPA filter, aiming to provide an accessible and effective means of improving indoor air quality.
Objectives Our air purifier project aims to improve indoor air quality effectively at a low cost Cost efficiency We have installed filters that work as efficiently as the traditional HEPA filters. Innovation The project aims to create a healthy and breathable environment for all. Health
Theory The efficiency of air purifiers largely depends on the type of filtration technology used. HEPA filters, composed of a mat of randomly arranged fibers, operate on three primary mechanisms: diffusion, interception, and impaction. 1.Diffusion: Small particles move erratically due to collisions with air molecules and are captured by the filter fibers. 2.Interception: Particles following a streamline in the airflow adhere to fibers they come into close proximity with. 3.Impaction: Larger particles cannot adjust to the streamline of the air and directly collide with filter fibers. The combination of these mechanisms allows HEPA filters to effectively remove particles of varying sizes, enhancing indoor air quality. The air purifier system's design includes a fan to draw in contaminated air, passing it through the HEPA filter, and releasing clean air into the environment.
Conclusion The simple air purifier with a HEPA filter demonstrates a practical and effective solution for enhancing indoor air quality. By leveraging the high filtration efficiency of HEPA technology, the device successfully reduces harmful particulate matter, contributing to healthier living environments. Future improvements could include integrating additional sensors for real-time air quality monitoring and optimizing the system for energy efficiency. The success of this project underscores the importance of accessible air purification technologies in promoting public health.
