Phanta Kalpana

In Ayurveda Hot infusion is already described as Phanta Kalpana.

1. 1 In phāṇṭa preparation, water soluble extractives are brought into the liquid media and the liquids is used as medicament just like cold infusion. There is very slight difference between the hima and phāṇṭa , and that is in hima , cold water is used, while the phāṇṭa is prepare in hot water. In hima the drug is kept soaked overnight but in phāṇṭa it is kept until the hot water cools down. Phāṇṭa Kalpana is not suitable choice for the drugs that are volatile in nature, rather hima preparation is a good choice. Phāṇṭa Kalpanā (Hot Infusion)

2. According to S ā rangdhara : 2 Definition: Phāṇṭa preparation is prepared by adding 4 parts of boiling water to 1 part of coarsely powdered drugs. Later when the water is still warm the mixture has to be macerated well and filtered. The filtrate is called phāṇṭa or cūrṇa drāva . Significance: This preparation is for instant use and is lightest for digestion among five kaṣāya kapanās .

3. Precautions 3 Drug should be in coarse powder ( yavakūṭa cūrṇa ) form. Boiling water has to be poured into the drug. The vessel used in the process should be non-reactive. Only soft water has to be used. Sufficient maceration has to be carried out. Chemically inert vessel has to be used for keeping the drug soaked.

4. 4 Dose and adjuvant Dose: 2 pala [96 mL (same as that of decoction)]. Anupān : Sugar or any powder of medicinal drug. All the praksepaka dravya are added same as that of decoction. Examples: 1. Sudarśana phāṇṭa 2. Paṅcakola phāṇṭa

5. . Sudarśana phāṇṭa : ( Anubūta yoga) Ingredients: Sudarśana ( Crinum latifolium ): 1 part Uṣṇa jala : 4 parts 5

6. 6 Coarse powder of sudarśana (1 part) Dose: 1 pala (48 mL). Method of preparation Add boiling water (4 parts) mixture has to be macerated well when the water is still warm Filter to prepared phāṇṭa Anupan : Suger , honey etc. Indication: Tridoṣaghna and useful in all kind of jvara .

7. . Definition 7 2 . Paṅcakola phāṇṭa Ingredients: Pippali ( Piper longum ) : 1 kola (6g) Pippalimula ( Piper longum ) : 1 kola (6g) Cavya ( Piper chaba ) : 1 kola (6g) Citraka ( Plumbago zeylanica ): 1 kola (6g) śuṅṭhi ( Zingiber officinale ) : 1 kola (6g) Uṣṇa jala : 4 parts (120mL)

8. . 8 Method of preparation Coarse powder of all drugs Add boiling water (4 parts) Mixtures have to be macerated well when the water is still warm Filter to prepared paṅcakola phāṇṭa Dose: 2 pala Anupān : Suger , honey etc. Indication: Gulma , plihā , udararoga , ānāha and śūla .
