Phase Relation Project on Colon Classification By: Mehanaz Sultana Bachelor of Library and Information Science( 1 st Semester) JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE
objectives identify different types of phase relation to form complex subject. Classify documents that display phase relation , using the Colon classification .
Introduction Dr. S.R. Ranganathan first introduced the term ‘ Phase ’. In the very first edition (1937) of his Colon Classification(CC) he used the symbol as a bias device to bring together . Each component of an assemblage, whether of subject or isolates is called Phase , and the bond or relation of the components is called Phase relation. The well-defined concept of distinctive phase relations and their notational representations have enabled CC to assign homonym-free specific class numbers to complex subjects and complex isolates , indicating their phase relations.
