BACKGROUND ON APPROACHES, STRATEGIES, METHODS AND TECHNIQUES PRESENTED BY GROUP 1

OBJECTIVE Define each concepts Explain how they are different from each other

TEACHING Approaches Strategies Methods Techniques

Approaches Strategies Methods Techniques A set of principles, beliefs, or ideas about the nature of learning, translated into classroom practice. A teacher's beliefs and philosophy about learning.

Approaches Strategies Methods Techniques EXAMPLES: TEACHING PHILOSOPHIES Constructivism Progressivism Essentialism Perennialism Teacher -Centered Learner -Centered

Approaches Strategies Methods Techniques These are the methods used to facilitate teaching and learning in a more creative way, focus on the overall plan and approach to achieve learning objectives

Approaches Strategies Methods Techniques Run to the Board EXAMPLES: THINK ,PAIR,SHARE Pictionary Race

Approaches Strategies Methods Techniques The systematic way of conducting a learning activity. It implies an orderly, logical arrangement of steps. It is more procedural.

SPECIFIC EXAMPLES INDUCTIVE GENERALIZATION/RULE DEDUCTIVE SPECIFIC EXAMPLES GENERALIZATION/RULE (Giving specific examples or activities) (the General concept) (the General concept first) (Giving specific examples or activities)

INDIRECT DIRECT Teacher-centered The teacher is the main source of information. Sudent - Centered Students are actively involved in the learning process

Approaches Strategies Methods Techniques OTHER EXAMPLES DISCUSSION METHOD REPORTING DEMONSTRATION INVESTIGATORY ACTIVITY

Approaches Strategies Methods Techniques Steps followed when teaching pertains to the teacher's personal style in accomplishing an immediate objective.

TEACHING TECHNIQUES Project -Based Learning Inquiry-Based Learning Differentiated Instruction

Approaches define the overall philosophy or framework for teaching and learning, shaping how instruction is designed. Approaches Differences between Approaches and Strategies

Strategies are specific methods implemented within an approach to execute that philosophy effectively. Differences between Approaches and Strategies Strategies

Examples of Approaches: Learners actively construct knowledge rather than passively receive information. This approach emphasizes exploration, inquiry, and real-world problem-solving. Constructivist Approach Example: A teacher guides students in an open-ended project where they research solutions to environmental problems instead of simply memorizing facts.

Examples of Approaches: Knowledge is delivered clearly and systematically, focusing on explicit teaching, structured lessons, and skill reinforcement. Direct Instruction Approach Example: A math teacher demonstrates step-by-step problem-solving methods before giving students exercises to practice independently.

Examples of Approaches: Encourages students to ask questions and seek answers through investigation, promoting deep engagement and critical thinking. Inquiry-Based Learning Approach Example: A science class begins with students formulating hypotheses, conducting experiments, and analyzing their findings rather than just reading a textbook.

Examples of Strategies: Students reflect individually, discuss with a partner, and share ideas with the class. Think-Pair-Share (Collaborative Learning Strategy) Example: In an English class, students analyze a short poem, share interpretations with a partner, and then present insights to the group.

Examples of Strategies: Tools like concept maps or Venn diagrams help students organize information. Graphic Organizers (Visual Learning Strategy) Example: In history, students use a timeline to map key events leading up to a revolution, enhancing understanding of cause-and-effect relationships.

Examples of Strategies: Incorporates game elements like points, rewards, and challenges to make learning more interactive. Gamification (Engagement Strategy) Example: A language teacher turns vocabulary review into a competitive quiz where students earn points for correct answers.

Method is a procedure adopted by a teacher to achieve the goal and make learning easy and effective. Method is a plan that we follow during our teaching learning process. Methods Differences between Methods and Techniques

Technique is a particular trick or contrivance used to accomplish an immediate objective. Personal strategies that we use in the classroom. Techniques Differences between Methods and Techniques

Differences between Methods and Techniques Example: Direct method, GTM.. Example: Drilling, Brainstorming Written exercise etc.. Procedural Implemention

Situational Example for Approach, Strategy, Method, and Technique: Background: Elementary teacher for Grade 6 students Teacher Anna believes that every student needs to be adaptable to new people and environment. She is guided by collaborative approach.

Hence, she has chosen to use group demonstration methods to achieve her lesson objectives. She assigned groups with six members each, and each group needs to propose a new project based on the problem. Before proceeding to a group demonstration, the students need to brainstorm and evaluate the issues using the think-pair-share strategy.

While the activity is ongoing, she uses cards to facilitate the activity. The card technique has been useful to provide hints, feedback, and props to the students.

Thank you very much!
