FCHS - ACTIVITY DAY 2016 PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP Photography day
Objectives for the day: To understand how a single photograph can show a narrative (story) To use different camera angles and framing to help create a certain viewpoint To use lighting to create a certain mood or atmosphere Outcomes for the day: Your group will take a series of photographs that each show a clear and creative scenario OBJECTIVE OF THE DAY
TASK 1: Label this photographic equipment in your booklet. What are the benefits of each? DSLR TRIPOD COMPACT CAMERA STUDIO LIGHT POLAROID CAMERA LENS a) b ) c ) d ) e ) f )
“A picture is worth 1000 words…” What does this mean to you? A photographer must think of ways to make their story as clear as possible. There are 3 main techniques a photographer must control in order to help their story become clear: 1. Lighting 2. Framing 3. Camera angle Which of these do you think is the most important?
Light Directions …
3. Camera Angles Angles of images, are important for creativity ! Above......below.....360 O .........diagonal........
DISCUSS: What mood is being created in each? How is lighting, framing and camera angle contributing to this? TASK 5: Write this down in your booklet
Gregory Crewdson – this photographer builds entire sets just for one photograph
DISCUSS: What do you think the narrative (story) is for this image? Why? How are the techniques discussed helping this?
You will now be divided into 2 groups and taken to separate rooms. Your teacher will then hand you an envelope containing some scenarios. Choose 3 to recreate as photographs or come up with your own. Brainstorm some ideas first – W here do you want to shoot? What narrative (story) do you want to act out? Do you need any props? What lighting should you use? What camera angle will help your story? In your group, make sure you have a photographer, lighting technicians, set organisers and actors - everyone has a role! Take at least 10 images for each scenario. FINAL TASK
