WHY BABIES REQUIRE PHOTOTHERAPY: 1.Immature liver 2.Hyperbilirubin   What is jaundice: Jaundice is a common temporary and usually harmless condition in newborn infants. It affect both premature and term babies. Usually appearing during the first week of the baby life.   WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF JAUNDICE:   Physiological Jaundice: This is the most common cause of newborn jaundice and occurs more than 50% of babies. Because the baby has immature liver and bilirubin processed slower.   Breast feeding jaundice: Breast feeding jaundice may occur when your baby does not drink enough breast milk. It occurs 5% to 10%

Breast milk Jaundice: Breast milk jaundice occurs in 1% to 2% of breast fed babies. This type of jaundice starts 4 to 7 days of age. It may last 3 to 10 week.   Blood Group Incompatibility: If baby and mother have different blood group sometimes mother produces antibodies that destroy the newborn red cell. This cause a sudden build up of bilirubin in the babies blood. This series type of jaundice begin during 24 hours of life.   Some other reason for neonatal jaundice: 1. Abnormal blood cell shapes 2. Blood type mismatch between mother and baby 3. Bleeding underneath the scalp caused by a difficult delivery 4. High level of RBC 5. Infections.

Side Effects of Jaundice In babies whose bilirubin blood levels reach harmful levels, bilirubin may get into the brain and cause reversible damage (called acute bilirubin encephalopathy) or permanent damage (called kernicterus ). Frequent monitoring and early treatment of infants at high risk for jaundice can help to prevent severe hyperbilirubinemia .

JAUNDICE TREATMENT The goal of jaundice treatment is to quickly and safely reduce the level of bilirubin . Phototherapy  — Phototherapy (light therapy) is the most common medical treatment for jaundice in newborns. In most cases, phototherapy is the only treatment required. It consists of exposing an infant's skin to a special blue light, which breaks bilirubin down into parts that are easier to eliminate in the stool and urine. Treatment with phototherapy is successful for almost all infants.

What is Phototherapy ? Phototherapy (light treatment) is the process of using light to eliminate bilirubin in the blood. baby's skin and blood absorb these light waves. These light waves are absorbed by your baby's skin and blood and change bilirubin into products, which can pass through their urine system.

Phototherapy System outcome The Phototherapy provides light of suitable wave-length and intensity for the treatment of hyperbilirubinaemia.

Advantages of Phototherapy Systems

Treat Jaundice Safer and Faster Introducing nice Ne Ö tech LED/CFL series Phototherapy Systems Because every baby deserve nice care

n ice 4000 series LED/CFL Phototherapy Systems

Low energy consumption Lamp usage for more than 20,000hrs No infra red rays in the LED No ultra violet rays in the LED No water loss Feather touch keys Micro processor controlled Vertical pole with height adjustment Irradiance level adjustment from 25% to 100% Programmable treatment timer Lamp usage hour meter Tri color indication for lamp usage Large coverage area with uniform light distribution Effective treatment with minimum loss of light Features

Treatment Light- CFL Phototherapy unit 4 Blue Lamps and 2 White Lamps - The light provides an average intensity of 18-25 μW /cm2/nm at a distance of 30 cm (12 inches) distance from the baby. 6 Blue Lamps - The light provides an average intensity of 25 – 30 μW /cm2/nm at a distance of 30 cm (12 inches) distance from the baby.

Light source height Adjustment This knob allows adjusting the height of the light Source. First loosen the knob, then adjust the height of the light Source by holding the ellipse pipe, and finally tighten the knob to lock the height. Light Source tilting LED Light Source can be tilted by grasping the device on either side and torquing to desired angle. Even when the baby is in the incubator or warmer effective phototherapy treatment can be given by tilting the light source to the required angle (±90º)

Effective Area The following graph shows the normalized spectrum of blue lamp and the spectral sensitivity of the spectrophotometer.

TROUBLESHOOTING AND MAINTENANCE

Cleaning Procedure Use an Adopter or Quaternary Disinfectant Registered by the Environment Protection Agency, but only after the Phototherapy is empty and disassembled such as Kleenaseptic®b * Germicidal Surface Cleanser may be used. When using any cleaning agent, follow the manufacturer’s directions for use. After removing all solid wastes and contaminants from the disassembled parts, clean them as follows, Lamp Protective shield: Wipe the outer of transparent Portions and clean with a cloth dampened with a disinfectant-detergent. Light source and Pedestal Stand: Use a disinfectant-detergent to clean all surfaces thoroughly, and then dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Remove dust from the exterior of the light with a soft brush or soft cloth dampened with water. Sponge away remaining debris with a mild solution of detergent and water, a noncaustic commercial cleaner, or hospital disinfectant.

Preventive Maintenance General Always disinfect and clean the unit and accessories before any maintenance – even when returning the unit to the supplier for repair. Always disconnect power supply before any maintenance. Use only nice Neotech’s original parts for maintenance. Warning: Periodically check the insulation and the connection of the cable it may cause fire because of poor insulation and short circuits due to aging. Warning: Don’t misaligned the EMI Shielding and the beads as it may cause the EMI interference to the equipment Safety Checks: The following must be performed on this unit at least every 6 Visual checks of the unit and accessories for mechanical damage affecting functions: 􀂾 Clarity of Acrylic protective lens. In the event of wear or poor clarity replace the same. 􀂾 Check the Height Adjustment. 􀂾 Check the Light source tilting. 􀂾 Check Safety Warning notices for ‘Legibility’. 􀂾 Check equipment fuse links for rated current and fusing characteristic. 􀂾 Perform functional check according to operating instructions (section 3) 􀂾 Check the power supply cord.

Cautions Use cleaning solution sparingly on a cloth when cleaning the Infant Radiant Warmer. Do not saturate the unit - excessive solution causes damage to internal components. Do not autoclave or gas sterilize the skin temperature probe. Do not immerse the probe in liquid cleaner. Avoid placing excessive strain on the probe lead. Do not pull on the probe lead. These precautions will help avoid damage to the probe. Do not autoclave or gas sterilize the mattress. Only competent individuals trained in the repair of this equipment should attempt to service it as detailed in the service manual. The Service Manual provides detailed information solely for use by individuals having proper knowledge, tools and test equipment, and for service representatives trained by nice Neotech . Isolation from the supply mains is Detachable Power cord provided Use of nonstandard components: Consult the manufacturer for repair and replacement of components. Use of incorrect component can adversely affect Safety, performance and/or damage the equipment performance
