Learning Outcomes: At the end of the 60 minutes discussion, the Grade-7 students shall have done the following with 80% accuracy: e xplain the nature and background of tinikling dance; demonstrate mastery on the nature and background of Tiniking dance through an activity called roll the dice ; display understanding through recognizing the proper costume for tinikling dance ; and enhance the value of Philippine Folk Dances to the youth by letting them explain a quote.

NATURE AND BACKGROUND OF TINIKLING DANCE

WHAT IS FOLK DANCE?

Folk dance refers to the dances created and performed collectively by the ordinary people. It is a dance that reflects the life of the people of a certain country or region. FOLK DANCE

The term usually includes: so called “ethnic dances” such those of the cultural community in the Cordillera, in Mindoro, Palawan, Sulu and Mindanao: and the rural or lowland Christian dances, among the groups, like the Ilocano, Pangasinan, Tagalog, Pampanga, Bicol, Cebuano, Ilonggo, and Waray. TINIKLING

NATURE AND BACKGROUND OF TINIKLING DANCE This dance is a favorite of the Visayan Islands especially in the Povince of Leyte.

The tikling is a bird with long legs and long neck. NATURE AND BACKGROUND OF TINIKLING DANCE

The tinikling dance, therefore, imitates the movements of the tikling birds as they walk between grass stems or run over tree branches. NATURE AND BACKGROUND OF TINIKLING DANCE

This spectacular dance is usually accompanied by a song. NATURE AND BACKGROUND OF TINIKLING DANCE

The performers dance along the sides and between two bamboo poles, about nine feet long, which are placed horizontally on the ground. NATURE AND BACKGROUND OF TINIKLING DANCE

The poles are struck together in time to the music. Skill is demonstrated in dancing between the bamboos and in keeping the feet from being caught when the poles are struck together. NATURE AND BACKGROUND OF TINIKLING DANCE

COSTUME

Girls wear “Balintawak” or “ Patadyong ”. COSTUME

Boys wear “barong tagalog ” and long red trousers with one trouser leg rolled up. COSTUME

They dance barefoot. COSTUME

Dancers stand at the left side of the bamboo poles , girl in front, facing the audience. FORMATION

THE MUSIC OF TINIKLING IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS: ( A AND B ) THE COUNT IS 1 - 2 3 TO A MEASURE. TINIKLING DANCE MUSIC

BAMBOO RHYTHMS, WE HAVE COUNT ONE ; STRIKING THE BAMBOO TOGETHER BY SLIDING THEM AGAINST THE BOARD OR LIFTING THEM. FOR THE COUNT 2 AND 3 , OPEN THE BAMBOOS FOOT APART AND STRIKE THEM TWICE AGAINST THE BOARD. TINIKLING DANCE MUSIC
